Kent 12 seed?

TOL NIT (I believe an automatic as regular season MAC champ).

#13 seed… but close

Kent St playing #4 seed Indiana Friday 3/17 at 1 pm in the Midwest bracket.

Upset special??

That is a potentially tough draw for Toledo. Michigan has played really tight against some tough opponents all year- a couple of those turn into wins and Michigan should have been in the tourney.

Conversely, Michigan has also played down to their opponents almost as much they they have played up- example EMU and CMU games. So maybe Toledo has a shot.

Ultimately, I am a Michigan fan after I am an EMU fan. So can’t root for the MAC in this one. But good luck to both teams!!

Quite possibly. I don’t know enough about the Indiana lineup to understand how they match up. But the 12/13 seeds are usually great matchups for quality mid majors.

I watched Indiana beat Purdue the B10 champ twice. It will bea tough match up for Kent St.

What happened to Akron? Given their 102 NET ranking, I was expecting them to be passed up by the NIT. But should have gotten an invite to the CBI. Did they decline? Also, looks like they are no longer running the collegeinsider tournament?

I can see why may colleges pass on those pay to play tournaments.

Put that one on upset alert! The Hoosiers don't like the game Kent plays.

I see Toledo upsetting Michigan in Ann Arbor in the NIT! Toledo is definitely A top 68 team as well, quite possibly top 50! Did only Toledo and Kent St make it to the post season?

Agree. CMU beat Blue and we should have.

Yes. There appears to be only the 16 team CBI tournament that extends beyond the traditional NCAA (68) and NIT (32) tournaments. Akron was pretty highly ranked at #102, and I ASSUME was invited to the CBI since they had taken much lower ranked mid majors. So I am ASSUMING Akron declined.

They did not hold the “college insider tournament” this year. Which given the CBI took USC-Upstate at 16-15 with a #255 ranking, it seems like there is not much interest in these extra tournaments anymore. And I totally get it and agree. But it is a shame because it leaves a lot of mid majors with decent seasons with nothing to show for it.

Toledo didn't play much defense, Michigan players would dribble to the basket, Toledo players would not jump, try and take a charge, and the Michigan players just went around them, and shot layups! Also, Michigan really shot well, especially the 3 ball, and #1 in the middle Toledo had zero answer for his size! Giving up 90 points typically doesn't result in a win! 27-8 is still a phenomenal season!

I did not get to watch the game. Looks like Toledo played it reasonably close. Probably had a better chance of an upset with Jett Howard sidelined. But Toledo’s team is not well suited to handle a Dickinson type player as you say. (And as Jerry says, Toledo is not a deep team, so that might be why they lost it a little in the second after leading 42-40 at halftime).

Otherwise, I will agree with you. Solid season for Toledo. No shame in this loss.

Toledo is EMU, mainly non-athletic players just with a whole lot more pure basketball skill. Of course, Hunter D was going to have his way with Toledo's softy 5 player, Shumate, who likes to play outside and shoot threes. Toledo plays great designed basketball, but they don't have the athleticism to compete beyond the MAC regular season. Milliner excluded, that guy is a beast. EMU needs a guy like him, yesterday.

The big play in the game occurred with Toldeo on a run and the score, Michigan 72, Toledo 69. The MAC POY, Dennis had a wide open three from the top of the key and clanked it, the game was over. Big players make big shots at big times. He did not, but I suspect Sincere Carry (who I don't like) would have.

Some very good points. To further your point, RayJ went 2/12 on 3s between the Kent St and UM games. Seems like great players usually don’t go cold on the two biggest games of the year. But he has another year to up his game.
