Olympic Sports in the Big 12
As we transition into the Big 12, it'll be interesting to see if the university adds any new sports.
I'd love to see a wrestling team and perhaps gymnastics in Armory, and the idea of a women's rowing team could wo. The Big 12 is a power in both wrestling and gymnastics, and - while there are certainly expenses involved - neither would require a significant infrastructure investment as softball, for example, would. I'd love a return of men's soccer, but that is likely dead in the water given that it's not sponsored by the Big 12.
My guess is that most of the additional revenue from the Big 12 will go toward the IPF, the renovation of Armory, and reducing the student subsidy, but if we did add sports, what would folks prefer?

Bolded, likewise for wrestling in the B10 as I recall and it seems like a natural fit that has limited facilities requirements. Softball is intriguing but I keep trying to figure out where UC could add a playing field near the campus footprint.

Wrestling 100%
Huge sport in the new conference and a huge sport for Ohio high schools as well. A perfectly natural addition.

I believe that unless there is also a women's wrestling team added, you'd have to find another women's sport to add, or reduce the number of men's scholarships to offset any wrestling scholarships. Title IX Would women's rowing be enough?

Correct, and a good point with a sport like rowing. I don't believe there are too many scholarships given out in the sport, and there's little revenue, unless you count full-paying out of state students who want to row collegiately. I took a peak at Ohio State's roster. About half the squad was out of state/ international. I wonder how many would have attended OSU if it weren't for rowing....

Wrestling….BOTH men’s and women’s could be added easily. But, at what cost? Mats, practice facility, coaches, uniforms, insurance, travel, recruiting, and of course scholarships. One thing to keep in mind is that the NCAA limits scholarships for the sport, like they do most Olympic sports, to less than a full roster.
Believe it or not, back in the early 80’s the wrestling club was the 3rd highest revenue sport at UC, behind football and men’s basketball. We used to routinely get 400-500 participants, across 3 age groups, in the summer tournaments that we held in the armory. A huge HS tournament was held there every Christmas time for years. Even the regional Olympic trials were held there a couple of times.
And WOMENS wrestling is the fastest growing sport for high schools and colleges across the country.
