Way too early 2023-2024 men's basketball
Who has to leave, who has been around awhile but may move on, who might transfers?

Per Verbal Commits for 2022-2023

Senior - Enoh
Junior - Phillips, Kelly
Soph - MHH, Harvey
Fresh - Newby, Thomas, Farrar, EVH, McGriff
Incoming - Hodge, Ross
Commits - Matthew Moore 6'7" forward

Translating to next year it would seem that Enoh is the only player that will have to move on. Everyone else could remain, with Phillips and Kelly being the oldest of the bunch. IF everyone stayed who COULD stay, i'd have to think we'd be the odds on favorite to win the CAA next year.

The players I hope stay are Kelly, Phillips, MHH, Thomas, Farrar, EVH, McGriff, Hodge, Ross. If Newby stays i'm afraid Thomas gets stuck behind him and moves on, and i'd rather have Thomas. I'm not a fan of Harvey and would rather see Hodge take his minutes going forward.

Thoughts, speculation?

Even with the same team, no chance we are favorites over CoC who just one the title has a ton coming back, and the best recruiting class our league has seen in a long long time. Only thing that changes that is Kelsey bolting.

I feel like Kelly will probably not return, I hope he does. There is likely some other guys that might leave we have alot of players playing similar roles and positions. We have to many 6 ft shooting guards who are not very good shooters. I think we should look for a few players who would feel needs. Need a shooting guard who can really shoot, a true point guard who can lead and a post player

Recruiting classes, as good as they may be on paper, are still an unknown. CofC is losing a lot from their team that is already known while UNCW COULD be returning pretty much everyone from a fourth place team that went to the finals. I'd be shocked if we weren't picked #1 or #2. After all, we were picked #5 having lost a most of our starters from last year.

Hofstra is going to have a tough time replacing Estrada. But they have been fairly consistent over the past few years

How quickly do those commits open up their recruitment when Kelsey leaves? He’s gone. He was building a brand on social media all year for the next move up.

Not just Estrada. Tyler Thomas was a RS Sr. and is out the door as well. Then add in Towson losing Timberlake and Cam Holden(RS Sr.) and UNCW is looking pretty good IF we don't have transfers out. And unless some guys who are older choose to move on(or we move them on), we will have transfers out.

Kid from Chi town closer to 6’9”.

Too early to speculate but if most return, we should be top 3 for sure.

MHH is a Senior who has the option of returning. Since he and Phillips didn't participate in senior night, it looks like they are planning to come back. Kelly is a bigger question, but if he can get some NIL $$ and wants to come back and compete for a championship I think he will be back. I definitely think he and MHH can improve their stock to play professionally with another year first.

It doesn't look to me like Newby is going anywhere. Some here are really down on him. The Coach obviously likes ("trusts") him.

You have to figure that somebody/somebodies will leave , if for no other reason than they see the handwriting on the wall - if you weren't sniffing the court much this year, why do you think next year would be different if almost everyone is coming back? Plus the better players are going to have back-channel NIL opportunities dangled in front of them to round out some rich team's lineup.

There are already 125 or so players in the portal (including Nicholas Timberlake from Towson) , so stay tuned.

Yes he does, and that is a big problem if he continues to play over guys that he shouldn't be playing over. He had a few nice games this year but he hurt us more than he helped us IMO

Kelly and Enoh were introduced at Senior night, but I think that they were the only two. I took that to mean that everyone else is planning to stay--at least at this point. I hope that turns out to be true!

Looking for starter minutes I'm sure. A&T would make a lot of sense.

It would make a ton of sense, but that’s not a player I want to see in the conference on the other side of the court. IMO, he would torch us for big numbers. Not that we can help that now. I just hope he doesn’t go to a conference foe, especially not one in the imaginary south division.

Should have started and played here IMO and was on the bench when COC guards beat UNCW at the end of the game. He is a really good player and will have options better than A&T .

Harvey in the portal as well. Not surprising considering his playing time diminished as the season went along.

I can seeing this being extra motivation to go to A&T; a chance to torch the coach that tolerated him, but didn't appreciate him.

I hope he goes where he gets to play and is an adult about it. I can't imagine being that juvenile about such an important decision and again I think he will have offers . Harvey is another guy that has upside and wish him the best . This may not be the end of it for UNCW .
