What???

This is the story. She retired young due to health issues:

"“It is with a heavy heart that I announce I am stepping down from Michigan State University due to health reasons," Merchant said. in the release. "After much consideration and consultation with my healthcare providers, I have come to the difficult decision that it is in my best interest. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the entire Michigan State community, including the administration, faculty, and staff."

I know this isn't how it works, but open the door and whenever she's ready let her come back to Eastern.

She decides she is ready in December of 2023? See ya Castro.

He's terrible. She's a winner.

If she is healthy enough to do it, PLEASE bring her back.
No offense but if that were the case, wouldn't she have just taken a leave of absence and return to MSU?...I don't follow women's basketball at all but if she is having health issues, wanting her to come back to EMU in December seems kind of...selfish.

Bob your points are well taken.

That said, she is only 53 years old and perhaps her health issues coincide with the trajectory of her B1G program. U-M's Sue Guevara sunsetted her career quite admirably at CMU. Lower stress in the MAC.

Selfishly I'm sick and tired of watching Castro "coach". I gave him FIVE years to prove he can do it before getting disillusioned. The last two years have been an absolute joke.
Five years is a fair amount of time to build a winner. I agree with that. I still scratch my head wondering how Murphy wrangled 9 years without winning and being the most unengaging, dour, reluctant coach that I can ever remember at EMU...those extra 4 years did huge damage to EMU basketball and clearly Heath has not yet been able to get the car out of the ditch and back on the road. I hope we don't make the same mistake with the WBB program.

I remember Suzy at Eastern. She always looked very youthful and energetic, the all American girl. I saw a recent picture of her and she does not look well. This is in no way a criticism on aging, as you said, she is only 53--2 years younger than me, which I consider not old at all. I truly wish her well. Stress is the devil!

Bob EMU is a low stress environment. If she comes back to coaching...

Is coaching WBB--anywhere that stressful? Certainly not compared to Men's basketball which for most people is the ONLY basketball that matters. I personally cannot watch it but to each their own.

Rumor is that Castro was given a one year extension which defies any reasoning.

Her health problems are beyond stress, she passes out and faints
She needs to get that taken care off
It was described to me like she has a seizure except without all of the twitching

Yeah. Thanks for the correction. My comment was simplistic and not very helpful.
