From what I'm hearing, the Spring Practice workouts are quite spirited, and the players are focused coming off a bowl win and are optimistic about the team's prospects for 2023.

Going into the portal at this time of year probably means that he wasn't factoring in as a starter. It'll be tough to find another D1 roster spot now. D2 is a likely destination.
