I'm always thrilled when I see Geeter or another big come off his man setting a ball screen to defend a dribbler ten feet beyond the top of the key. It warms my heart when subsequently the big Geeter or whomever was defending rolls to the bucket for an easy bucket against our trademark "no help" around the tin defense. Leon Ayers is not very good, but we made him look and many others like NBA prospects.

I excoriated Creighton for his horrible defense after the Buffalo and NIU losses. In comparison to Heath, those were average performances. Defense and rebounding on this basketball team are just abysmal.

I don't know how a team in contention for a tourney slot can play so poorly. I have no idea if illness is an excuse but as posters are indicating the defense was non existent. Defense is largely effort and quicks and EMU had neither on defense.

Let the season come to a merciful end. Difficult to even get mad about this team anymore. A few fun moments and a lot of really disappointing basketball. It is sports, everyone is going to be okay, I promise.

It was tough to watch. Got to a point where I assumed BG was going to score as soon as they beat their man off the dribble. We made that Agee kid look like Kevin Garnett. All the strides we made defensively in the last week went out the door against a team that hasn’t won in over a month.

And you’re right about the rebounding. A bunch of stone hands that don’t box out all throughout our rotation.

Glad this season mercifully comes to an end this weekend. We are in need of another overhaul…and an actual center. Hopefully another offseason of experience helps some of these young guys, but man does it seem like such an uphill climb.

There could be a possible 3-way tie between EMU, CMU and MIA with a max of 6 wins and EMU holds the tie-breaker over both. We would not have to get to 7 wins.

We also have a 'back in' scenario if MIA beats WMU. EMU and MIA both have 6 wins and both could lose Friday and EMU backs in. MIA plays @Buffalo (that's tough!).

Remaining Schedules of those competing for the 8th seed. As others have pointed out, indeed EMU controls it’s own destiny. Of those currently tied for the 8th spot, EMU has a 2-0 tie breaking record, CMU 2-1, and Miami 0-3. If Bowling Green beats EMU, will significantly hurt EMU on both the overall record as well as the tiebreaker record.

EMU (5-11): @BGSU, @NIU

CMU (5-11): VsToledo, @WMU

Miami (5-11): @WMU, @Buffalo

BGSU (4-12): VsEMU, @Ohio

WMU (3-13): VsMiami, VsCMU

I am not going to say you are wrong. But I am going to say you are clearly jinxing it with your premature exuberance. And setting everyone up for a major let down after EMU loses tonight. BG has been in every single on of their games during their 9 game losing streak, they are playing at home, and EMU is not the strongest of teams for whatever reason. EMU is to BG tonight an even bigger blessing then what WMU was to EMU a week ago. So nothing to be too excited over.

I should have flown out for the game and have Stan have me make the pre-game...

You captured it all! The enormity of this failure somehow makes it more bearable. Nothing to debate or regret or think about at all. Just time to move on. After all, it’s just sports as you suggest.

So right about moving on. But I can't get over both Noah and Emoni not starting in the biggest game of the year. What message does that send to them? I'm speechless.

So this is a moot point, and maybe we put this season to a merciful end as many are suggesting. But EMU is technically not mathematically eliminated yet. So, for one last time, remaining schedules for this teams I. Contention of the 8th Seed. EMU needs to win AND have both Miami and Bowling Green lose.

Miami (6-11): @Buffalo

BGSU (5-12): @Ohio

EMU (5-12): @NIU

CMU (5-12): @WMU

One final commentary,

Last years team was 5-15 in conference play or 25%. This years team will be at worst 5-13 (28%) or 6-12 (33%). Little consolation- still the worst season in EMU basketball since I have been watching given the expectations. But I find it intriguingly odd that it was actually slightly better then last year- at least from the aspect of conference play.

Sorry I can't agree. Lat year's team had several overtime wins and played with a certain amount of grit and determination despite its record. I never saw that this year. We can debate which season had a tougher schedule. That gave me hope that there was a foundation that Heath could build on for this year. Then bingo Stan goes out and gets a highly rated group of newcomers and yes folks EMU will be back this year. It someone being told make a right turn and there's a pot of gold and make a left turn and you fall off a cliff. This season has been a series of left turns. We were 10-21 last year and xeroxed it this year. The input of talent did not result in an output of wins. We were dead last in the MAC in several categories last year like assists and we will be at the bottom in some of those same categories again. Lets see we have to go back to Charles Ramsey's 2008-2009 season at 8-24 or 2010-2011 9-22 although in his defense Ramsey never had the talent on his teams this team did this year.

Whatever message the coach wants to send.

So right about moving on. But I can't get over both Noah and Emoni not starting in the biggest game of the year. What message does that send? I'm speechless.

Whatever message the coach wants to send.

I'll repeat a thought I made in a different context:

I'm not a big fan of all the social media stuff like interviews with the coach, etc. which usually doesn't say much new 'news,' except those pre-game interviews.

The big story, and I'm not sure how to read between the lines, is the stomach bugs sitting in the GI system of the two star players.

I did NOT bet on the game (actually haven't bet on a college game since March Madness 2022) but who would like to bet on the game and discover something is running thru the EMU MBB locker room, maybe a bug or maybe something else.

Anyway, bug or bad behavior, whatever it was is history (especially if it was a bug) and say >95% chance the season will end Friday night (though as RameyEMU indicated we still have a mathematical chance Friday night - we win and MIA and BG both lose).

Lest I disappoint anyone here is how one might calculate the chance of us pulling a rabbit out of a hat:

The probability of three independent events ALL occurring is the product of the 3 separate probabilities (probabilities are my guesses. ESPN will have theirs Friday).

E.g., EMU has a 25% chance of beating NIU.
Maybe MIA has a 33% chance of beating UB in Buffalo.
BG maybe has a 33% chance of beating Ohio in Athens

So .25 x .33 x .33 = 3% chance (or don't make plans for next week in CLE unlike you like CLE in early March). I miss the days where I would go to San Clemente and hang my feet out on the balcony and Chad and Matt would give me a shout out on the air... Or the TOL game, semis which we lost in the last few seconds... :(

If we had a local print newspaper:

EMU Eagles Lay an Egg in Key Contest

EMU Eagles delivered a fowl performance as the high flying Falcons of Bowling Green led most of the way and won going away.

EMU has a Friday night date with the NIU Huskies in DeKalb, Illinois.

EMU football spring practice begins in two weeks.

Yes, as BG had 13 offensive rebounds to EMU's 6.

But, the most glaring stat is that BG scored 46-points in the paint mostly on lay-ups compared to EMU scoring a meager 20-points in the paint. BG's scoring so many points in the paint explains BG's shooting 77 percent on 2's. The failure of EMU not to defend the rim was inexcusable. Has been a season long problem that should have been addressed by proper positioning of bigs inside. Players lack of skills attributed as well as they were placed in the position to do things they were not capable of.

Yeah. Expectations are pretty low. Anything different is a nice surprise like the game at UT, albeit in a losing cause.
