We only beat 4 teams all league play, but sure enough we play one of those 4 in the first round. Which means we probably lose by 10.

Congratulations on your regular season title Southern Miss, now your reward is potentially having to play your first game against the team that just beat you by 31! Marshall potentially plays the team that just knocked them out of first place, JMU potentially a team that they beat in OT after a pretty wild JMU shot to force OT. Georgia Southern has played well lately and ULM was playing very well earlier in the year. Nothing easy for the double byes!

Can anyone provide Do’s and don’ts for first time visitors to the Sun Belt tourney in Pensacola?

Hotel on the gulf beach, check.
Any worthwhile golf courses?
Best watering holes for Sun Belt comraderie?
Which hotels do the teams stay in?

Noticing the Monday night championship game on ESPN2 while other conferences are just beginning their tournaments? Is it always like this for the Sun Belt?

Wondering how much better we need to get as a conference to take the AACs championship slot the weekend after on ESPN or ABC. Will be interesting to see if that AAC slot stays after the 3 leave to the Big 12.

Tough season after back to back regular season champs. Been a long time since we've been this bad.

Check me on this. I hand counted this morning while my wife chattered away at me about some breakfast recipe that she was preparing for our visiting daughter and son-in-law (a Marshall grad who was in for they game last night, b.t.w. - - hah!). I may have miscounted somewhere.

But it does confirm some seeming discrepancies between conf.-record seed and in-bracket performance - - USA and ODU in particular. ULM also was a surprise.

Our time slot four our tournament is pretty much always like this. We are done before some of the P6 conferences get started with their tournament. It’s because ESPN can’t air as many games if they all play during the same weekend. The Sun Belt final has been aired by an ESPN network the longest of any conference. It was the first conference championship aired by the newly formed ESPN at the time and ESPN has aired our final every year since.

To make another point that bolsters your main point, USA is 6-3 overall against our side of the bracket, but that includes a win against every team on our side. I won’t get into our 3 losses other than to say all three would fall into the Ken Pomeroy bad “luck” that had USA the third most unlucky team in all of college basketball. Go Jags!
