Yes. Very interesting as some tried to portray Emoni's year last season at Memphis in a negative light.

Yes, and alongside Rob Murphy. The announcers said Coach Murphy was there for Ballard’s senior day. But he has been at many EMU basketball games the last couple years.

Man, in retrospect we were really hard on that guy for consistently going 0.500. I feel a little bad now. And even miss going 0.500.

Hey when you make the kind of money NCAA coaches do, you will attract criticism, it understandably comes with the paycheck. I was not very sanguine with Creighton at midseason, our team's defensive problems were chronic year after year. Then he CHANGED.

Murph, however, in year 12 would still be playing the Syracuse 2-3 zone, blaming players and be .500 at best. His mentor is MR .500 in the ACC for the last nine years, by the way.

Heath may not be the guy, but a change had to be made.

Well stated, Jerry!!

Will never get old seeing this board continuously bring up the zone when, until the last two years of Murphy’s tenure, we were routinely at or near the top of the conference defensively and at or near the bottom of the conference offensively. Would be like blaming Ben Johnson and Jared Goff for the Lions missing the playoffs this past season.

Murphy had some massive warts, but the zone wasn’t one of them. It was successful FAR more often than it wasn’t.

Sam, for the most part I can't disagree with much of what you proffered.

Murphy would have a better record this season than Heath. Randle would be playing center with Jihad, Geeter and Billingsley on the wings. Bates would be playing elsewhere, no way he comes to EMU with Murph's offense. Noah would be Paul Jackson 2.0 and when he has a great game, we change a couple of the L's to wins for sure even while being horrible offensively and throwing up bricks from the foul line. Murph beat U-M 45-42 and Heath lost to them 88-83, yes, the zone was often successful because Murph sacrificed a lot to play it well.

The zone in today's game, however, has a low .500 ceiling as Jimmy B in Syracuse is demonstrating. It is the equivalent of the veer offense in football. I'm far from happy with Heath's performance thus far, but after ten years of Murph, we needed a change.
