Exciting 4-2 win over TCU yesterday afternoon in the frigid April weather. The sun finally peaked out in the ninth inning as the Cats fought off attempted rallies from the Frogs.
My early take? UC is competing better than expected in the Big 12. They play "small ball" well, the defense is pretty solid and they have some effective pitching. Mostly, they appear to be very well coached which bodes well for the future development of the program.

OK, the Ohio State schedule says that they play UC up here on April 30. The UC schedule shows no such game.
Do any of you insiders know who I should believe?
Or maybe I'll just show up at the OSU stadium on the 30th and be the only one there.

Wish I knew more. It's definitely not listed on UC's schedule. UC won the last time the Buckeyes played here as I recall and it would seem to make sense for that game to be scheduled annually. Especially since UC is in a much better baseball conference than OSU. But you'd never get an OSU or B10 fan to admit to that.

Up 6-0 early today too...might the weather actual be a benefit for us playing these southern teams?

Overall, I can say I am happy with the way UC is competing in the B12 this early. I was fairly certain that they would struggle against the mid to top tier of the league.
They are playing pretty good baseball and if they can clean up a few things defensively and the pitching keeps maturing, they will be dangerous.

Cool but sunny--a beautiful day for baseball on campus. The crowd was decent and the Bearcats dominated right from the start. I would have never guessed a 3 game sweep of TCU possible in the first Big 12 season.
The Bearcats now have 19 wins, compared with 24 all of last season. I realize there were differences in the pre-conference schedules but they're off to an encouraging start while competing in an elite baseball conference.

A few miscues and some tense moments late in the game but it all ended well.
Beating X in baseball should be routine but it's not been the case in recent years. UC's RPI actually improved last night with the victory. And X visits UC next Wednesday. Here's hoping for fair weather and another win after an upcoming, challenging weekend series at OSU.

The Ohio State game has now been added to UC's schedule, in Columbus on April 30th.....

X got their revenge 6-4. Three-game home series with Houston this weekend.

Noting that our overall record is barely over .500, I assume we need to win the conference tournament to make the postseason?

Yes...we are nowhere near the at large cutoff.

RE: UC Baseball
Cats clinch a series win taking the first two games over Houston and go for the sweep today. I'm not suggesting there will be a postseason, but this team displays a lot of determination, energy and a passion for winning unlike we've seen in recent years. The season record should be substantially better than the '23 team and that's occurring in a tougher conference. It provides reason for optimism that UC can have a competitive baseball program in the Big 12 in the coming seasons.
Further, it would appear Cunningham hired well in baseball, and with this week's recruiting news, in women's basketball too. If our goal is to have a great athletic department--more than just men's bb and football, it will require hiring capable coaches for all areas of competition as well as resources commensurate with power conference peers.

Thanks. Haven't been able to check X today because I haven't finished watching Liege-Bastogne-Liege and I don't want to know the winner.
