I hope he comes in and is disgusted to see two of the strongest programs play in community college like facilities (soccer and tennis) and we need a basketball practice facility right away and baseball stadium is getting antiquated fast

I would say we need to expand and upgrade Trask before we build a practice facility for basketball. Agree that the baseball stadium needs to be renovated so we can qualify to host regionals. Those are your two sports that generate the most revenue and they need to be maximized. AFTER THAT, soccer and then tennis facilities can be upgraded. If you try to do too many things at once you end up doing it all half assed.

Not sure what you could do to expand Trask or if that is a real need at this point it is probably bigger than the need . The last Trask upfit was really bad and done on the cheap, hopefully next time they have a real plan and not just throw money at it .
The baseball stadium is a hoshposh of junk that just doesn't work together at all . Nice outdoor hitting facility and the indoor facility is really good but the rest is just so bad it's all most laughable .

No need to change anything to the interior area where the court and seating are, or at least minimal. Expansion of the front towards the street has been discussed before that would have an open, atrium type area with a food court type setup, a place to buy UNCW gear and an upstairs area. The example given is similar to the renovation of Reynolds at NCSU, we just can't remove the seats and create a glass wall since we can't spare losing the seats. Most agree the atmosphere and views in Trask are very good, and we don't need more seating capacity.
Love the fact that the Chancellor, AD and basketball coach are all relatively young. All three of them are at the top for the first time and all are looking to "make their mark" on the university because of that. It's also a benefit that the new AD was a former college basketball player, director of basketball operations at UConn and he even looks like a basketball player.

This sounds an ideal solution for Trask. Reynolds is really well done, but I'm not sure what value the glass wall adds.

Old 70s was in the very first game in Trask. Love the place...but it needs a lot more than an atrium with UNCW gear and a food court.
I'll just bet that if you asked our new AD about raising significantly more basketball $$, he would start by telling you that he needs seriously premium seating areas/skyboxes to sell - for starters. A number of older facilities about the same size as Trask have been fully renovated/truly modernized but it takes a lot of money - and time. There's no place else for UNCW to play while Trask is undergoing a serious overhall...so there's that, too.

There's that. Which is why the most logical solution is to add on the front and pretty much leave the court alone. Can still create sky boxes around the top for corporate big wigs.
