Would be interesting to know what happened behind the scenes to convince the PGA Tour to do a 180.
They were getting much larger crowds than PGA expected and, more importantly, too many big names were signing with LIV which means, according to the policy PGA TOUR chose, they wouldn’t be in major tournaments. As I said, it will be interesting to see the changes in format next season.

LIV exposed the PGA, and when badmouthing LIV didn’t go as well as they anticipated, the PGA decided this was the cheapest way to handle everything.
The PGA had already spent $50m in legal fees, and had to tap into a $100m reserve intended to boost the purse at upcoming events. They were looking at easily $100m more, and they didn't have it.
The Saudis won because they could afford to keep paying lawyers and the PGA could not. They pump money out of the ground, hard to beat their ability to spend.
RE: PLOT TWIST!!! SBR: Graeme McDowell & LIV golf tour
I’m not arguing any of that. The PGA could have quietly done a lot of things years ago, but they felt like they were untouchable. The Saudi’s for whatever reason wanted to be a part of golf, and they were going to one way or another.
The PGA is absolutely ridiculous in all of this. They thought LIV would just be a thorn in their side briefly, and had no strategy moving forward. They were forced to make changes that should have been made years ago, and were still losing players. The speculation is John Rahm was close to leaving for LIV before this all went down. The PGA had a ton of issues to resolve, and this was the easiest way out.
I dislike the PGA, and I hate their commissioner now. He left these guys out to dry and had no good explanation for what was done. These guys went to bat for him, and they got **** on in return.
I understand what the Saudi’s are, and I understand what the PGA is/was. Both are far from perfect, and this is a hell of an alignment going forward.
