I hear that Hattiesburg was rocking and FULL this weekend as well! 04-cheers

College baseball is awesome.

We are in good company
1 Mississippi St. SEC 33,870
2 Ole Miss SEC 31,737
3 LSU SEC 31,398
4 South Carolina SEC 20,910
5 Florida SEC 18,043
6 Texas A&M SEC 17,844
7 Southern Miss. Sun Belt 15,852
8 Florida St. ACC 15,270
9 Clemson ACC 13,669
10 East Carolina AAC 13,643

OM MSU and LSU #s are INSANE in the membrane.

I'll say it again ... when we moved here in Aug. '74 (just turned 9), it only took a week to realize baseball was a monster in the 'burg/'sip ... having to try-out for Dixie Youth baseball was too cool....
Wait until Arkansas plays at home. Their attendance #'s will be up there as well.

NORFOLK, Va. – Jake Ticer's three-homer game in yesterday's series finale versus St. John's has helped earn him a National Player of the Week honor from Collegiate Baseball on Monday.

He is the first Monarch to be named a National Player of the Week since Matt Coutney was selected the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week on April 19 last year.

A junior college transfer who joined the Monarchs (2-1) this season, Ticer was responsible for driving in half of ODU's runs on Sunday as he batted 3-for-3 with three long balls, five RBIs, four runs, a walk and a hit by pitch. He started off with a three-run blast in the bottom of the first, then added solo shots in the seventh and eighth innings.

It was the first three-homer game by a Monarch since Andy Garriola's three in the 2021 Conference USA Tournament versus Florida Atlantic.

For the series, Ticer finished 5-for-8 (.625) with a 1.875 slugging percentage and a .769 on-base percentage. The Prescott Valley, Arizona native added a double, seven RBIs, five runs, two walks, and 15 total bases to his weekend totals. He was also hit by pitch three times.

ODU is back at The Bud this Tuesday as the Monarchs host VMI for a 3 p.m. game. The team then has its first road game of the season on Wednesday, a 3 p.m. meeting with William & Mary at Plumeri Park.

TXST leading the nation in runs per game.
New program record for runs over a 3-game series (56, in just 24 innings no less).
New single-game program record for team homers (hit 8 Sunday).
We have a freshman (Chase Mora) who currently has 3 homers, one being a grand slam, in 3 career plate appearances. Genuinely curious if that's ever happened before in college baseball.

We had a, uh, successful weekend offensively.

I just don't think people realize how big baseball is in the deep south, and in Mississippi specifically. My son's high school team had 87 kids try out this past year for 22 spots on the team. We are not in the largest school classification in the state either. Very common to have 750-1000 fans at a high school baseball game in the Hattiesburg area.

Do you think a lack of professional teams has something to do with it? So college baseball is king. That doesn't explain the number of kids coming out at the high school level. Probably just a regional interest like other sports.

Unfortunately HS football attendance is dying outside of the smaller towns. Its kinda sad.

I've got a friend who has kids at one of the larger schools in the Jackson metro area. There were about 80 7th grade kids trying out for the Jr High team. Many of those players that didn't make the cut will transfer to play at other nearby schools.

A relative's son has transferred to four different schools hunting baseball playing time. He finally transferred to a tiny school in the Jackson area and is playing. It's kind of insane.

Cajuns - I'm thinking about taking my son to a few Louisiana baseball games this season. We've done football & basketball.

Are the beer prices at Tigue Moore Field reasonable? (I still have PTSD from the Cajundome beer prices. LoL)

Maybe you are paying more for higher alcohol by volume? Louisiana is a 6% state. Isn't NC at 5%?
