I don’t think anybody is saying jelly shouldn’t or can’t shoot. I don’t care about the sheer numbers, I just don’t want to see 10 points on 10 shots, 25 points on 25 shots, etc. he needs to be closer to 25 points on 20 shots on a normal day. That’s all fine and well.
And my biggest issue has been the forced shots early in the shot clock, whether it’s him or Gaines. I don’t care if we take a quick shot when it’s open, that’s how we play. But to dribble into the front court and take a jumper from 25 feet with 2 hands in your face is just a low percentage, low quality shot on a team that doesn’t need one guy to be Superman.
As all over the place as Gaines has been this year, he made some elite, nba level passes today. He is still out of control too often, and makes bizarre decisions at times, but he is 10x better than he was at the start of the season. He is going to ultimately be the player that determines where we end up and how far we go in March.

Our ESPN+ crew for home games, with Mo Finley as color analyst, is not bad. Much better than either Stadium & CBS who can’t even pronounce our names correctly.

Yeah, I enjoy our ESPN+ crew, and I actually don't mind the Stadium guys. There are a couple schools with just terrible play by play guys though on their ESPN+ broadcasts, and CBSSN isn't great either
I was at the game and I thought Buffen absolutely deserved a tech as he was jawing at the guy that tried to block the shot and he did it for long enough that he definitely deserved a tech. It was good to see AK get on Jelly when he took a long ill advised shot. It seems he is trying to reign in Jelly more and get him to take better shots. The charge call on Lovan may have been the worst flop I have ever seen in person and he got rewarded for it. Lovan did not touch the guy and how one of the refs could not see it and overrule the ref making the call from a terrible spot to even see it is beyond me. Team plays really good when Jelly plays under control and does not take wild shots. He is such a defensive liability it is hard to keep him in the game. Several plays MTSU would get easy baskets or open shots because of Jelly's lack of good rotation or just getting beat by being smaller. Brewer had a heck of a game and AK said after the game he plays like that in practice most days but it has not transferred to game play so hopefully he can keep it up.
a. For the Bartow Classic, I found "Will former players please stand?" pretty weak.
b. I did notice that AK was back to coaching Gaines at every stoppage in play. When he does that, good things happen.
c. The Trumpet Symposium playing the Anthem was pretty cool. Would have liked to hear them more during the game, but hey, we can't miss a second of 45-year old recorded Ozzie. UAB needs a Tuba Symposium.
d. Our new announcer really likes saying Butta Johnson's name.
e. Three years ago, I feared we might be seeing the final Golden Girls squad. They have revived.
f. Ty Brewer's scoring outburst may have been the least impressive aspect of his play today.
I’m not a Buffen defender normally, but seeing it on tv live and with a replay, it was really, really weak. Ty did twice as much later and got nothing. Dudes routinely yell and flex when they make a dunk like that, nothing Buffen did crossed the line to me. I honestly think his reputation earned him that tech.

That’s what I was saying about Gaines and the bigs to quit chirping and flexing. It’s not that they do some incredibly stupid (though they have at times) but we all know reputation proceeds a player in any sport. Buffen’s not going to get any slack at this point in the season.
I also think this was the problem our football teams created for themselves under Clark.

Agreed. I think Buffen's T came because he was yelling directly toward the player he just dunked on, which is seen as taunting (and from my view, I thought it was a legitimate call, even if he didn't already have a reputation--though it wouldn't have been hard to give him a warning for that). Later, Gaines hit one of his three's and held up the 3-finger salute, and kind of pointed it toward the player he just shot over as he stared at him. He was fortunate they didn't T him up for the same reason.
It's really not that hard to stop that. There has to be some zero tolerance from the bench, which is not going to happen--just, as you mentioned, it never happened in football.

I just wish our guys would just smile after a good play or maybe clap or fist pump or acknowledge a good pass but never stare your opponent down. Really great game today by everyone! Now let's see how we play the next 4 of 5 on the road. It's time to put it together. Nice start today!

I understood what you were saying, I just think Jemison is the wrong target.

I've given him a major hard time, but Gaines's body language has been night and day lately compared to the beginning to middle of the season. He seems to have matured a good bit on the court and slowed down. He still makes bizarre decisions, but he's way better than he was even just a few weeks ago.
cool they brought BTR back, but... why didn't he end up on the sideline somewhere? I saw he and Blaze walking around the concourse, but just wondering...
