MyBB North Texas Mean Green - Round 2
KenPom Numbers:

UAB 71
North Texas 64

Records:

UAB 17-7 and 8-5
North Texas 19-5 and 10-3

North Texas beat UAB at Bartow Arena on January 21st, 63-52. The Mean Green led at halftime 40-29, and they never trailed during the second half. UAB never got closer than 9 points during the second half. UAB was only 1-10 from downtown. UNT was 8-17 from three! UAB did get 24 free throw attempts to only 9 for North Texas. UAB outrebounded them 32-26.

When the other team out-shoots you 8 to 1 from behind the arc, it’s tough to come back from only free throws.

Butta was the only Blazer to hit a 3. Jelly didn’t play. Buffen had 0 points and 3 turnovers. One of his worst games as a Blazer.

North Texas has lost to FAU (34) twice. Both times by only 4 points. Their best win was over UAB (71). Worst loss was at home to Rice (169), 72-60.

They have won their last four games. It seems UAB always catches teams on a winning streak lately. Rice had won 4 straight before losing to UAB. FAU had a 20-game win streak broken at Bartow Arena. FIU had won 4 straight as well before last Saturday.

KenPom has it UAB 63 - UNT 67.

RE: North Texas Mean Green - Round 2
It's as simple as this... Which UAB team will show up?

If the team from the 2.5 game stretch against La Tech at home, Rice, and FAU at home shows up, I think we win a close, hard fought game.

If the team from FIU shows up, we lose by 10+

Jelly jacking up early, contested, bad shots over and over, and not creating shots for teammates, with Gaines turning the ball over every time he touches it, is not a winning recipe against anyone with a pulse. FIU is NOT good.

Ya'll can rationalize it anyway you want and say stuff like "boy they're a tough match up for us," etc., but we lost to them on the road and almost lost to them at home simply because those two players primarily played some of the dumbest, least court aware basketball I've ever seen in those two games. You don't get multiple digit leads against a team in two games because they are on your level talent and athleticism wise. We should have blown them out both times. The team I saw against FAU at home would've beaten FIU by 30.

We obviously won't win this game if we play anywhere close to how we played against FIU. I'm really hoping for a performance more in line with what we saw against Rice and FAU and we play well, even if it results in a close loss. UNT has consistently been the best team in the league over the last 4 years.

They're everything that we aren't - calm, cool, collected, poised, surgical, precise, clean with the ball, and function well as a collective unit.

RE: North Texas Mean Green - Round 2
That FIU team lost to FAU in OT, and led the majority of the game. They have beaten Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee, both of whom beat UAB. They had won four straight games before Saturday. They beat UAB in the first matchup.

FIU is second in C-USA in percent of steals while on defense. They had 14 steals against UAB, and caused 22 turnovers. In the first game with them, FIU had 13 steals and caused 19 turnovers. That’s what they do!

What does North Texas do? They set college basketball back fifty years with their deliberately slow tempo. They are dead last (363rd) in tempo. The best time to use the restroom, while watching a North Texas game, is while they have the ball. You won’t miss a damn thing!

I feel like our best game is better than North Texas’ best. But their average game is better than our game.

North Texas will stick to their tempo unless it gets out of hand. Then they will Jack up 3's and hope they can catch up. It did not work vs St Mary's. NT lost by 30 points and barely scored 30. I think they were missing some players too.

Right you are! Tyler Perry and Rubin Jones missed that game. UNT had 12 points at halftime. 21 of their 33 points came from 3-point land.

Andy Kennedy on the North Texas series: In this series, I believe that the visiting team has won 9 consecutive games. We’ve played them 5 times since I’ve been here. We’re 3-0 there and 0-2 at Bartow. We’ve contributed to that trend, I just hope that it continues Thursday.

Watched the game for barely 3 minutes and jelly got abused on an island one on one against one of their non-perry guards, and of course we do nothing to help him…

AK u might as well wave the white flag if you’re going to leave jelly on an island against their guards. It’s a broken record
