Our dumb coach doesn't realize when the other team is in man defense you have to set screens and give your best guard a chance to drive to the basket.

That's made worse by dumb refs that call a flagrant on our bean pole player that somehow effortlessly knocked down a player that has at least 30 pounds on him.
Your team played super aggressively, more than anybody we've seen this year. I didn't think we'd be able to win this game, but the aggressive play caught up with them. I don't have the stats, but fouls were pretty evenly distributed. 69 Fg % in the first half for the visitors...wow!

Louisiana scored 64 points in the 2nd half!

It was a very entertaining game, competitive with several highlight plays on both sides. A good crowd in attendance too announced at over 6,000. Worth a watch on replay by anyone who missed the game. The JMU arena is simply fantastic. The game had the presence/televised ambience of big-time D1 basketball with some very talented athletes on the floor.

I was looking at the arena pregame and then went online to look at more pics. If and when we ever remodel Fant-Ewing I hope they make it similar to AUBC. You have that perfect balance of enough space on the sidelines but close fan interaction. Then add your fans in the mix and it's a great environment. Just wish we could have given you guys a better game those last 3 minutes. You could tell our guys were just absolutely spent and JMU just walked away with it.

Your guys gave JMU all we could handle! Certainly didn’t want any more! 04-bow

Cajuns scored 64 in the second half, which was more than EIGHT Sun Belt teams scored in their entire game Saturday.
There were a whopping 49 fouls called resulting in 72 free throws being shot. Welcome to Saturday in the Sun Belt.

I finally got to see that foul call against Marshall in the first overtime and it was a bad call to be sure. But you can't get outrebounded by 20+ at home and then blame the refs. Well, you can, but you look kinda silly.

I really believe ULM's mantra is they're going to give you hell on Thursday, but all those minutes catch up to the Warhawks on Saturday. Cajuns rematch with ULM is on a Thursday and that gives me pause.

Using #1 for a road win in the league and -1 for a home loss, here are the standings as we head into February

Louisiana +4
Southern Miss +2
ULM +2
JMU +1
Troy +1
App +1
Marshall 0
ODU 0
GaSo 0
TxSt -1
CCU -1
GaSt -2
USA -3
sTaTE -4

General question, do we really believe a road win at Arkansas State should be valued more than a home win against Southern Miss? Because that's what we're doing here.

Hey, this is the way I choose to look at it. I'll say this: Winning on the road in College basketball is tough. Should a road win in Jonesboro be valued more? Well, Marshall had to go overtime to win there. My guess in Huntington, it's a 20 point win. This + - is something that's been a thing for 30 years. I think I mentioned earlier that Tim Floyd was the first I ever heard talk about it. And, over the years, more often than not, the team that takes care of home business and steals what they can on the road is at the top at the end.

As I look at the remaining schedules, I not only look at the opponent, but also where the games are being played. Home court advantage means plenty in this sport IMO.

No I get it. I'm not looking to win some kind of weird internet argument here. We're going to have to take care of our business during these next four road games.

But you have to look at the other side of things, there's more to college basketball than just road wins.

RE: Sun Belt Basketball 1/26 and 1/28
I remember years ago, Southern Miss was leading the Metro Conference (Louisville, Memphis, Cincy, Tulane, Florida State, South Carolina, Va Tech and Southern Miss) in basketball about halfway through the conference season and had just defeated a good Louisville Cardinals team. Denny Crum commented that so far Southern Miss had played more games at home and that the roles were about to be reversed. I was so ticked off that he would state such a fact, but he got the last laugh as Southern Miss did not win the league and collected some Ls when the Eagles went on the road. Winning on the road in college basketball, even when the better team is the visiting team, is not easy.

34.1% not easy, in fact.

That year, (1987-88) we played only 12 Metro games because Tulane was still in time out for its game fixing scandal from a couple of years earlier. USM played four straight conference home games in January, played no Metro home games in February, then played and lost to Memphis in the Midsouth Coliseum in the Metro tournament after losing its home finale.

We went from 4-1 in conference and 14-2 overall after we beat Louisville to losing all five games in that February road stretch, then finished 5-7. We didn't win a single Metro road game. That schedule was as unbalanced in conference as you will ever see.

We've lost 3 conference games. We lost two at home. GS is the only ~quality team we've played on the road and we lost that one, too. I don't see how close games on the road vs the bottom of the conference means anything but asswhoopins against the better teams on the road. We can beat anyone, but for whatever reason every game is a giant "?" and we never know if we're going to have any kind of effort or coaching. I think it's about to get ugly for us. Love to be wrong, but we're only clicking in about 1 in 3 games and they haven't been falling in the right order to take care of business. I expect 4-5 more losses. 2-3 would be outstanding the way we've looked most of the time in conference.
