Who are the 4?
There's mention that the ASUN-WAC Football Conference (AWFC) is in discussions with four current FCS teams to join the league when they plan to ascend to FBS. Who are they?

Many names have been mentioned. Some might surprise folks.

Who do you think they are?

RE: Who are the 4?
We are talking about a "mention"?

We're talking about "discussions"?

And a "plan" (proposed idea) for FBS.

IMHO they have probably called ten to twelve schools. Most have said the same thing--

"You get that fbs apartment house COMPLETELY finished and INSPECTED-- THEN (and only then) we'll consider moving into one of the apartments."

My two cents. Here's some they probably called on the phone:

Tenn. St.
Chattanooga
McNeese
NC A&T
Jackson St.
Other Southland Schools

NDSU, SDSU, Missouri St. did not answer the phone.

P.S.- Lol.

Lions1983 on the UNA forums:

Quote:I'm just throwing names out there... (for the 4 football schools.)

I'd say they would try to even out WAC and ASUN based on needs and geography.

What if the schools was

WAC- Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado

ASUN- Youngstown State, Chattanooga

Youngstown State would not be a bad trip for most of the ASUN not in Florida. And we all know why we want Chattanooga.

Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado would bridge the gap between Texas and Utah for the WAC.

Anyway, that is my for fun 4

Those schools fill out the football conference map nicely!

RE: Who are the 4?
I'm sure they had a passing conversation with plenty of schools, but I'm not buying that there is a concrete group interested at this point. If this gets far enough...there might be. I haven't heard anything about them, but Youngstown strikes me as a school that at least might see this as their chance to get through the door. The question is, would they be joining the ASUN or talking about some kind of associate membership arrangement? The Horizon is a really good fit for them overall.

You're right. Who knows how this will all work out?

It's not going to be the Dakotas. I just threw them in because many others have tossed their names in the possible hat. But, no. No Montanas either.

Youngstown State is interesting. Chattanooga has widely been speculated.

The mentions of NAU and Northern Colorado were schools I hadn't ever considered. But, they make a lot of sense geographically for this new football league.

RE: Who are the 4?
Chattanooga is brought up everytime there is expansion and they have always answered NO

If they decided to move wouldn't they first contact those who asked previously, and move the inquiry down the list. Like say the sbc then Cusa then the ASUN?

RE: Who are the 4?
It could be that they feel they missed those opportunities and don’t want to get left behind again. Otherwise, it might also be the appeal of moving to FBS with similar programs/budgets instead of jumping into an established G5 and have to deal with a wider gap in funding. To me, that the most attractive part of the plan for the AWFC.
