Down 38-35 at half to Kent St is not bad. But better yet, LEADING the assist battle 6-5. Some solid defensive stretches as well.
Also out-rebounding Kent.
I missed that, good point. They ended up winning the rebound battle for the game 38-37. It’s a step in the right direction.

Agreed. Wish they kept it closer in the second half. But this was their best game in the MAC season so far. After all, Kent St is the #38 team in the country- second best team they played so far- and the clear dominant team in the conference. Definitely a good step in the right direction, and hopefully to continue.

I was hoping Noah was coming out of a funk after a good game against Akron- in which Bates disappeared. And now the reverse, Bates good game and Noah disappeared. Wish we could get those guys clicking together.

Spot on!
This was plainly the best game this team has played since U-M. Very aggressive. Not only did we match them on rebounding and defense, but we actually had some of their players in foul trouble. I'm not embarrassed to root for the team that played tonight. Kent St is very, very good.
The temporary switch to the 1-3-1 zone with Bates at the top in the second half was intriguing, it showed that Stan can indeed make adjustments. Ironic as well, considering Rob Murphy was sitting courtside.

I'm liking the way Jihad has been playing. He seems to play hard, stays focused, and has developed a nice shooting touch. Keep him in the starting lineup.

Geeter was in a boot, probably out at least a few games.

Agree first half was solid basketball with passing the ball to the players with the open shot. Teams like to double team or trap Bates which leaves someone open. Yeah no doubt about it Kent St right now is where we want to be in the next one or two seasons-balanced and mature in all phases of the game.

NIU was on the road last night and defeated Miami for their second conference win.

I agree on Jihad. And he was a bit of a surprise in terms of how most of us thought the frontcourt distribution was going to take shape. So very happy for him. That said, unfortunately I still see a lot of improvement needed from him. But would like to see him get the minutes to try, and that may happen if Geeter is out. We’ll see how the shake up pans out.
Otherwise, I wish the best for Geeter to recover soon.

Yes, 6 assists in the first half while only 1 in the second. Not sure if EMU’s offense slouched or if Kent St adjusted. Any insights?
As for “next season or two being where Kent St is” would be an ambitious goal. But could see it if our guys get some of these fundamentals down by the end of the this year to build on next year.

I would assume it is because the women play at 1 and hence 2 1/2 hours later.
Were the games (WBB and MBB) supposed to be say noon and 2:30????

Not mentioned ... but a reality: Kent is where they are right now because they did not lose 'significant' players in the portal. For any MAC team, after any MAC season, that is key.
Just look at Akron. They lost their best player to Butler after last season. Just think where they would be with a veteran and productive 6-7 wing player!
And they're still in the mix.

Good point. It emphasizes how great a coach Groce is in the MAC before the Peter Principle took over in his ascendance to the B1G conference.
More importantly, it brings into question why a MAC coach is recruiting HS gyms. You can get Ryan Rollins who bolts to the NBA after two years or Ali Ali who transfers to Butler for his final year OR you can add transfer Sincere Carry who has to sit a year until he graduates?

Fans and alumni - I hope that EVERYONE is not being satisfied with moral victories or close calls. This coaching staff has FAILED to instill fundamentals and to get these players to be a cohesive team.
I’m very disappointed and time has practically run out on this staff which are approaching unrecoverable status.

I wonder if I can request a refund on my season tickets?

I will NOT be buying courtside seats next season. It’s so very unfortunate that many of us believed that the George Gervin Arena would finally be open but it’s another dismal season of very bad basketball.
I’m taking 20 friends to the game Saturday (made plans over a month ago) and if we lose it’s just another nail why basketball attendance can not get off the ground at EMU.
EMU would be among the conference leaders in attendance if we had a coach and players that could win consistently like KSU, Akron and Ohio until recently. We just keep making the wrong hire - another strike against Wetherbe!

Any new basketball coach we hired should have been given a 5 year contract with what Murphy left them. Again I wonder if these players LISTEN to their coaches or just ignore them. They play a competitive half and have some success and go back in the second half to their bad habits Kent State was a good example of this. My prediction is that Heath will be more successful in years 3 to 5 than he was his first two years.

I don’t know ‘79
Players that I believe would transfer out after this season Farrakhan, Golson, Lovejoy. Nobody wants to play on a 7-21 team. Farrakhan has regressed, Golson should get major starting minutes but rarely plays and Lovejoy will probably go to a winning program.
Bates will probably be gone even though he’s not ready for NBA yet.
That leaves us with Geeter (too slow), Billingsley (too slow).
Heath dismissed Golson & Jihad to begin this season and tried to develop Billingsley and Geeter. Clearly Golson and Jihad are better players.
After this season, the less talented players may stay and the talented players may leave.
This program has really taken a nose dive in year two by being the worst D1 defensive team in the country and by having the worst record in the conference. If Heath could coach the team to play fundamental basketball and have 12-14 wins I would agree. It doesn’t take 5 years for a decent coach to turn a basketball program around. Football? yes! Basketball? Absolutely not!

Say, what?
How many times can these players transfer w/out sitting out? They are not grad transfers.
Golson and Farrakhan have already transferred once. Of the 3 you mentioned, only Lovejoy hasn't transferred.
