I think that is silly.

CUSA had a good postseason....but, they have 1 team in the NCAA tourney, 2 in the NIT, and 1 in the CBI.

First off, no one cares about the CBI. Is that performance better than having 2-3 teams in the elite 8 or however many in the sweet 16?

NIT champion is not as accomplished as a sweet 16 or final 32..

The name of the game is $$$$$ to the conference.

So you are saying they had the 9th best tournament?

I could less conference ranking, look at the money FAU made in $$ for each team in the C-USA.

CUSA got like the 9th highest payout from what I read.

If people want to complain about players leaving, I couldn't imagine how pissed I would be if I was a Creighton fan. Ryan Nemhard is transferring. Big East Program....projected top 10 next year ...and fully capable of getting a Natty next year.

But, he wants a little more money so he's gone. (not saying I blame him)

They will replace him, and probably with someone better. That's where we need to evaluate how we are doing things. Look at who we lose, and see if we replace them with someone better. Right now I would say...

Caesar>Stines (it is obviously tbd)
Allette?Smith
Allette>Johnson (At least we hope)
Pounds<Long

Decent start.

Of course, but it is a nice accomplishment by a team that we used to own, and which presumably has the same challenges ODU has with less of a budget, history, or facilities.

I would be giddy if ODU won the NIT. We're so far away from that it's sad.

Absolutely. Ive been to both NIT F4s and several NIT home games over the years and its very meaningful. Id take an NIT championship over a Conference Championship, but I do agree winning 1 game in the NCAA trumps an NIT championship.

Obviously its way early. Need to replace:

Fields- Haven't done so yet
Long- Pounds (for now) This is nowhere close, need to find someone
Stanley- Havent done so yet
Smith- Haven't done so yet
Johnson- The lesser Allette. Not sure it makes a difference, he didn't play
Stines- Allette. Obviously you never know but Allette is about 200 ranking point higher than what Stines was so the expectation is at least that he will be better.
Brown- Ceaser. Ceaser is not only better, but actually able to play.

We really need to find a power forward and a center. We don't really need to replace Stanley with a similar type of player, I would go for best player I can get. It would also be nice to get another shooter to replace Smith, even though he didn't play much.

ODU needs to recruit 2 bigger/better centers (than Stanley and Fields). Williams can play the 4 and backup the 5 if needed.

Im certainly not opposed to 2 centers, but it is very doubtful that Williams will play the 4. Jones is not likely to pair him up with another center unless it was a very unique player.

I doubt we carry 3 centers unless one is expected to take a year to develop behind the other 2 or one of the other centers can stretch the floor and guard 4s.

RE: OT: Other College Hoops
Dericko and Brandan Stith are similar players physically and athletically speaking. Jeff moved Brandan (6'-7", 240 lbs.) to the 4 and played him in the lineup with Trey Porter (6'-10, 230 lbs.) playing the 5. Ben Stanley (6'-7", 235 lbs.) often played the 4 this past season.

Dericko (6'-7", 222 lbs.) should be at least as mobile defensively as either Brandan or Ben were to play the 4. He was also taking more 10 - 15 foot jump shots as the season progressed.

To only carry 2 centers - counting Dericko as one of them - puts ODU in the position of being undersized (again) in the post when one (or both) become unavailable for any reason at all. I would say to get 2 and have Dericko as the emergency backup while giving him primary minutes at the 4. Otherwise, you end up with someone like the 6'-4" Wade as the emergency backup as we saw happen this past season when Stanley went down. If they get 2 centers with one of them being more of a project - like Fields was this year - and Dericko turns out to be the better option than he is for minutes at the 5, then use Dericko as a 4/5 swingman in a 3-player rotation up front, and the project 5 player becomes the emergency backup at the 5 if someone becomes unavailable.

Speaking of payouts, I always thought the conference payouts for the NCAA tourney were a few years behind. In other words, C-USA would not get any NCAA $ for this year until 2025 or 2026 (something about "units" earned). If that is true would ODU have received $ from C-USA's first round wins in recent years by Marshall, North Texas, UAB, MTSU, etc.

I don’t know what the period of delay is, but FAU and the other schools leaving this year almost certainly won’t see any of the $$ earned this year.

Correct…CUSA won’t be giving a dime to any of the post-season teams’ achievements this past season.

It goes into effect for the next year (so they'll see the payout in 2024), but it's paid out over multiple years (I believe 7).

This is the new world we live in. Mikey Williams is an IG star that committed to Memphis. Apparently at the age of 18, he bought a 2 million dollar house. Well, he was recently arrested on 5 felony gun charges.

Well-there is no evidence there was a shooting so he's too much of a choir boy for them.
