Mid American Men's Non Conference Standings
With the MAC men's basketball non conference games mostly completed here are the team's records going into conference play:
https://getsomemaction.com/standings.aspx?path=mbball
You might want to note some of these teams are undefeated at home so far this year. I think the most surprising team so far is Ball State.

RE: Mid American Men's Non Conference Standings
Well timed thread,, 79! I am posting the MAC standings by their NET ratings below. Post non-conference schedule is a good time to take a snapshot of this. Usually a good predictor of conference play, but there are always outliers- usually a team will tank while another team will surprise. Hoping EMU will surprise, however there is nothing to indicate they will.
TO NOTE, records listed below are D1 results only.
ADDITIONAL NOTE, the NET ratings are the only computer rankings that the NCAA uses for tournament selection and seeding.
https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball...t-rankings
23 Kent St. 8-3
106 Toledo 8-4
120 Ohio 7-5
128 Ball St. 7-4
143 Akron 6-5
205 Buffalo 4-7
255 Central Mich. 3-8
281 Bowling Green 4-7
286 NIU 3-8
299 Eastern Mich. 2-10
325 Miami (OH) 3-7
329 Western Mich. 1-9

RE: Mid American Men's Non Conference Standings
If Kent St only gets a couple losses during conference play, their NET rating should stay pretty close to where it’s at. If that does happen, and someone knocks them out of the MAC tourney, would mean a 2 bid situation for the MAC. Their current ranking of 23 is really high for a MAC team.

Kent St played a really challenging OOC schedule! Way more difficult then ours! And, they competing in every game!

Trying to figure out what makes them so good. Obviously Sincere Carey is averaging 16.9 points and 5.1 assists- that is pretty impressive. But what is interesting to me is that he is also averaging 2.4 steals while his backcourt mate Malique Jacobs is averaging 3.5. The number 1 and 2 conference leaders in steals. Defense wins championships! Wish we had a little more of that.

So Kent St has dropped down to #41. Their prior opponents must be getting killed in conference play. There goes the MACs automatic bid.

RE: Mid American Men's Non Conference Standings
Also, watching the Western vs Toledo game. Toledo up 42-23 at half. Toledo looks better than bowling Green for sure. And Western looks a lot like EMU, failing to close out on the 3 pointer, missing rebounds, and fumbling away open inside shots.
UPDATE: Toledo is up 69-41 with 10 min left in the second half… AND they are pressing full court- at least on a couple plays. That is just wrong. I hope Western destroys them when they play again. Or better yet, I hope Eastern destroys Toledo.

I know what you meant, and that was clear from the start. The MAC has not had two teams in the tourney in this Millenium. We are closer to beating the FBS football champion than we are to competing in roundball. It is what it is.

MY BAD. I should have said MAC is losing their potential extra bid. You might be right, MAC football is surpassing MAC basketball in the recent decade if not two. I think it started when Marshal joined the conference and football has been slowly improving since that (with some ebb and flow of course).
