RE: Official Game Thread: @ Wofford
I had a funeral and missed most of the game. I did check out the box score, but does anyone have observations? In scanning the box score:
We handily won the rebounding battle
We were acceptable in FT% and TOs
3PT% was much better
Smith turned in a great performance, aside from the turnovers
Looks like Taylor may have gotten into some foul trouble that dropped his minutes
Haynes had a so-so game. If he was up against Mack, I could see that. Mack's a heck of a player.
Jancek had a performance needed from your backup center. Contributed a little in most phases in 15 minutes.
Both Tipler and King shot well from 3pt range. The box score doesn't say anything about shot selection - did they get lucky or did they take mostly good looks?
Seymour contributed defensively and rebounding wise.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ Wofford
It is exciting to see Smith grow in confidence. He made some mid-range shots in this game that are rarely taken in modern basketball.

Our outside shooting percentage increased largely because they were much better shot selections, and our offense flowed better than normal. There is no explanation for why Wofford's outside shooting percentage was so poor, we gave up a bunch of open looks that thankfully didn't fall. We will have to make adjustments to win the home game against Wofford.

Furman is the clear leader of the SoCon. Outside of that, the league is wide open.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ Wofford
I think our shooting was the difference last night. And I hope it is a sign of things to come. Our guards just needed a break out game to get in their rhythm. Our front line of Jalen, Josh, Brock and Jaden is top notch in the SoCon. Now I think we are seeing Jordie, DeAnthony, Allen and Justice come into their own in the back court. That team should compete with any team in our league and should only get better. I think a difference maker from here on out is Justice. He is rounding into form and is a very hard match up with his length and ability to dribble and score inside and outside. Hopefully Bucs continue this improvement tomorrow and they can win another tough road game against VMI.

Jancek had a performance needed from your backup center. Contributed a little in most phases in 15 minutes.

Taylor (as well as Seymour, who tag-teamed) had his hands full with Messiah Jones, who was a bigger problem than Mack, actually, altho Mack was his typical self. I'd say Mack only slightly outplayed Haynes (+Jancek), but Jones was too much for anybody, when they could get him the ball.

I believe I heard Oliver say that Jancek was still having trouble with his ankle, which is limiting his minutes.

Oliver really wasn't happy with how the team handled the closing minutes, discussing how he saw fear and panic (again/still). He's *bound* to have been going thru a severe deja vu there towards the end.

We were truly lucky to win, mostly because the Woofers were 1/19 from deep in the first half. Yet were still ahead. That's a crazy, crazy stat. And they weren't taking bad shots, either; just cold. Because of all the outside shots they were taking, there were a lot of long rebounds, evidenced by King, Tippler, Smith, and Strothers collecting 19 among themselves. So to say we rebounded better, while true, is significantly due to them taking so many long shots, and our guards truly being sharp and prescient to gather a lot of those caroms.

The real 'story' of the game, momentum-wise, was two strong runs. One to end the first half and start the second, and the segment maybe 2/3 of the way thru the second half, when the Bucs truly looked like the Bucs of old, with a terrific few sequences of stops and impressive offensive performances. And that one was quick. It hit them with a flurry that set them back on their heels - and credit to them to come back to almost steal it. We probably outscored them at least 15, if not more, just in those two runs.

Another crazy stat is that they (Woffers) only had 4 TOs the WHOLE GAME. And yet lost. Wowser.

16 Buc assists - including 5 from our posts - helped a lot.

Woofers shot 5 more FTs then ETSU even took, largely because of Mack and Jones inside.

There were some *truly* horrendous calls/no calls. They probably evened out, but wow - some of them were just jaw-dropping.

Anyone else shocked? Still curious what happened there....but not enough to actually do any real work/research to find out.

Yes entire scenario has been strange. I guess there will be many things their fans will never know. It reminds me of some of the drama Buc fans have had the last year and the things we will never know.
