RE: MBB @ Vermont Game Thread
Vermont is just a shell from last year's team, they will finished somewhere in the middle of the pack in their conference I believe. If this was a home game for the Rockets, Rockets win by over 20 points. Talk about a quiet crowd, no life whatsoever, Vermont students must all be on break. Farmer has to put more overtime in practicing his free shooting. As far as EDU is concern, I think he got 13 minutes of playing time in this one. Would like to see him eventually average 20 minutes plus each game going into the MAC season . I am really pulling for the big guy. If UT can get anywhere from 6 to 8 points a games from him, perhaps around 6-7 Rebounds, and 2 block shots a game, that would be great. Still would like to see more of Wilson play, using a 10 man rotation with Cochran back as well. Once he starts playing again, Cochran will have to get his basketball legs back, this may take time. 8-4 heading into MAC play.

Before the season started Lorentsson was the greatest thing since sliced white bread…..we’ll really benefit from his 3s according to K. Yesterday he hits 2 of 3 from beyond and then doesn’t play anymore. Also, I really don’t see any benefits from playing Edu. I watched the game 2x on tape and tried to see what contribution he made. Don’t think he scored and I don’t think he came close to a rebound or blocked a shot. We’re definitely in trouble next year when Shumate leaves.

Looking back at individual stats for all games so far, it looks like when Milner is "on" (close to 50% or better) the rockets win. When he is off, the Rockets lose (not inc GM).

Edu had 2 boards, altered 2 or 3 shots and kept Shumate’s minutes under 30. Against a bigger, better Marshall team he got 7 and 7 and only 2 starters exceeded 30 minutes. Last year our bench consisted of a skinny 6’6” guy who couldn’t make a layup and a 6’11” project and every starter averaged 30+ per game. I don’t recall Kowalczyk claiming Lorentsen was going to be great or that he was even likely to start but he and Edu give us valuable bench minutes to rest Milner and Shumate and to keep Shumate on the floor when he gets fouls trying to guard 6’10” guys inside. The bench is a huge upgrade over last year and will be better when/if Cochran returns.

Good Win on the road. That's always satisfying.

8-4 and next Lourdes at Savage

We start conference play with two on the road. That is where we really see where we are as a team. Will Cochran be back for start of MAC play??? a little tough to get info since I think coach's is in hiatus till Jan 9th.

Go Rocket!

We actually start MAC play with two at home: Ball State on Jan. 3 and WMU on Jan. 6

RE: MBB @ Vermont Game Thread
solid win, vermont can score but struggles to defend and rebound. UT is very good at more finesse style opposition. It's those grind it out type game that get us. Lorentsson was good in his 2 rotations. Maddox had a better game. RayJ's shot was inconsistent but he controlled the game.

This is not the same UT team that played UAB and will need to 1) find a defensive identity and 2) rediscover that crisp passing we began the year with. That said, it was a pretty rugged ravel heavy non-conf and we took a couple body shots but pushed through for an 8-4 record with no pushovers. It won't get us an at large but it did challenge us. Cochran is a key piece and we probably need him at 100% to win the league or MACC. Right now we look like a 12-6 or 13-5 MAC team in a year the league is solid at the top but pretty weak otherwise. If Cochran gets back to form we will be better.
