I'm with you on that. My bet is they started the season off ranked pretty high in this poll and we started really low, and now we're meeting in the middle. They have some good wins over UMass, Penn and Mercer but have some bad lossed to Fairfield, Navy and Northern Iowa. Seems like their losses didn't hurt them much where ours all happened at the beginning of the season so we started 0-3 against DI teams even if they were good. Don't agree with it, but that's my best guess as to why.

UNCW rises to #18 in the midmajor top 25. Charleston remains #2 behind Gonzaga.

As it has been for a while now, it remains laughable that Gonzaga still shows up in this poll.

The WCC is a mid-major conference, yes. Gonzaga, however, is not a mid-major basketball program. They have something like a top 30 basketball budget in all of D1, and they spend 3x as much as the median-spending WCC team.

If they had a football program they’d have joined the PAC-12 over a decade ago.

They consider Gonzaga a mid major but not Western Kentucky

Honestly, if the A-10 and CUSA aren't included, the WCC shouldn't be either. Maybe that changes if Gonzaga bolts.

Why can't you just exclude Gonzaga but leave the rest of the WCC?

Exactly. They are an exception. Their inability to get into a bigger conference because of not having football doesn't make them a mid-major basketball program.

Its not that deep. They list the conferences that qualify based on whatever their qualification is. Are they an outlier, yes, but as long as they are in a conference that is included, they will be included and continue carrying that torch.
