Jacksonville at Trask
Home and home series with Jacksonville comes to Trask this Saturday. The game at Jacksonville last year was a beatdown of the Hawks' who lost 48-77. That loss was followed by a school record 12 game winning streak.

Jacksonville comes to town with a 5-2 record and a win at VCU wednesday night by a 73-62 score. Jacksonville made 9-18 three point attempts and was 18-20 from the FT line. They outrebounded VCU 38-30 and had 15 assists on their 23 made shots.

VCU took 28 of their 52 field goal attempts from three and made only five. They had only 8 TO's and forced 13 TO's with 9 steals, but couldn't overcome the poor shooting from three as well as going 19-29 from the FT line.

Starters

K Nolan 6'2" 180lb RSSr 30min .459FG(34-74) .400 three(18-45) 32 assts, 14ppg
M Marsh 6'11" 240lb RSJr 24min .593fg(32-54) 5.7 Reb 1 block 13.2 ppg
J Davis 6'3" 195lb Grad 30min .392FG(20-51) .261 three(6-23) 18 assts 8.6ppg
G Powell 6'3" 190lb RSo 25min .487FG(19-39) .500 three(9-18) 20 assts 7.1ppg
O Osifo 6'8" 230lb RSSr 21min ,425FG(17-30) 4.9Reb 6.3ppg

Bench

J Cook 6'3" 185lb RsJr 18min .435FG(10-23) .412 three(7-17) 5.4ppg
O Koureissi 6'11" 220lb RsSo 10min .476FG(10-21) 4.2ppg
S Deans 6'2" 200lb Fr 7.6min 2.0 ppg

Omar Payne started the first 4 of 5 games and hasn't played since 11/30 against UAB. He is a 6'10" 240lb RSJr who was leading the team in blocks(and still is)

Jacksonville stats

Scoring 70.3ppg while giving up 55.7ppg
FG% .479 while allowing .361
3pt .367 while allowing only .272
139 of their 384 FG attempts have been from three
12.9 TO's per game causing 12.7 turnovers.

Looks like we're going to face a lock down defensive team that we saw in Jacksonville. They aren't very deep and have had several players log over 30 minutes and several times played 40 minutes. They run guards and big men without many wing players, almost the opposite of UNCW.

This sure seems like a game where we really need to control pace and get out on the run. May be able to wear them down with constant pressure and tire them out if we can make this a horse race. If they control the pace, slow it down and make shots, it's going to be tough to score in our half court offense. We need to drive the basket and get them in foul trouble and kick our for threes. The ECU game is the template for offense. On defense our full court pressure can force them to work with a short shot clock and maybe force them into some TO's or forced shots.

Not sure if it will happen, but would really like to see the following starters.

Thomas, Shy, Farrar, White, Kelly

I have a good feeling about this team and this game.

Hawks - 65
Fish - 62

Jacksonville has a NET rating of 65 at the moment, making this a Quadrant 2 game.

Would be a really good win for UNCW heading into conference play. Then we finish with Campbell and High Point. Students should be out in force.

This is going to be a war it seems. Hawks need to put hard hats on and just compete. Have to move the ball like last game and get good looks from the perimeter here. We have to attack still and see what we get.

Defense has to be aggressive but be smart at the same time. If we can score, we have to try and speed them.

Toughness game like no game that we will have all year including Towson.....Go Hawks!!!!!

We are 2 point favorites with 59.7% chance of winning. The over/under is 124.5.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I am rather uncomfortable being picked as a favorite.

We are now favored by 2.5. I think I feel more uncomfortable being favored.

Pitching a shutout entering the first media! Love it.

JU didn't seem to have much of an answer for Kelly defensively so I hope we get back to pounding it inside; you could see they weren't respecting our guards as perimeter shooters very much, and rightfully so; Thomas and Shy each had plenty of room at the top of the key but none to drive on that last possession.

Absolutely dominant start. And just when JU decides to switch to a 2-3 Zone we hit a pair of 3's. Awesome!

Two things, first I apologize to Mr Newby. He's clearly gotten acclimated and is playing really well. Secondly, it's really amazing what happens with good movement and passing who's a thunk it.
