Good friend of mine spends about 1/2 his time now in Copper Harbor. Love exploring that region.....

Smart friend of yours and Copper Harbor is incredible. I want a place in the Kewanaw Peninsula where they get 30 feet of snow and have second floor exits to get out of the house all winter. I think I'm going feral.

I always liked Houghton...enough of a town to feel like you're close to civilization, but still far enough away to be able to avoid the hustle and bustle of life. Having Mount Ripley right there in town would be a plus for me too, even if it's not a particularly awesome ski zone.

Since we veered off the thread into Michigan I'll add that my wife and I ventured up to Marquette and Pictured Rocks last summer and it's really spectacular. Biked the Iron Ore Trail, hiked to waterfalls (everywhere), and cruised out to see the Pictured Rocks. The town of Marquette was fun too--some fine food, drinks, and shopping.

Many Ohioans have no idea what awaits in northern MI and the U.P.

There are some absolutely incredible overlooks and trails to hit in the early Autumn up in the Porcupine Mountains too.

Chris Vannini
@ChrisVannini
SOURCE: Troy is expected to hire Cincinnati OLB coach Greg Gasparato as defensive coordinator,
@TheAthletic
has learned.

Gasparato spent the last two years at Louisville and followed Scott Satterfield to Cincinnati. Also a former Army co-DC. Troy was No. 8 in scoring D in 2022.

Sources tell
@BearcatJournal
that new Cincinnati OC Tom Manning is headed to the NFL. Apparently an offer he couldn't refuse to jump to the highest level of the sport. Stay tuned to BCJ for further details.

A reminder that Scott Satterfield calls the plays and that was going to happen with Manning in the fold or not. Obviously bad timing, but this is the NFL window and having coaches everyone else wants is better than the alternative. #Bearcats

Jeesh... there's more coaches in the transfer portal than players.

While "change is the constant" among college assistants and coordinators, it's a little unsettling to see it hit our program in this way in a year where almost the entire staff has turned over, new schemes need to be installed, and Big 12 competition awaits in less than half a year.

Not to throw fuel on the fire, but there were some folks that responded with a big "meh" when CSS hired Manning, because he had one bad year and was fired. I guess that didn't deter the NFL.

The timing does suck because other than the guys jumping to the NFL, college coordinators already have their landing spot. I'd imagine the next OC is going to have to be another guy who is currently unemployed, or someone from a non-P5 school who will be getting a nice salary bump or a promotion.

I hope none of the recently signed or verballed recruits were coming here because of Manning.

Every year we can expect this- total turmoil. Players and coaches looking for greener pastures, no loyalty, just greed. The new normal is that every year is a rebuilding year.

Bolded, rewind to the Rick Minter years and it was the same scenario. The difference being Manning got an offer he couldn't refuse from the NFL Colts.

A coaching staff that rarely changes personnel probably isn't one that's winning at a high level. Otherwise, those assistants and coordinators would be in demand.

New linebackers coach is Nate Fuqua formerly Georgia St. DC
New OC is Brad Glenn formerly V-Tech passing game coordinator and QB coach he worked with Satterfield at App St from 05-08.

Also, I just read that Satterfield is planning on doing the offensive play calling.

He has been the primary play-caller for every team he has coached for as a HC or OC.

Sorry, I must have missed that. It was news to me.
