It's on a Tuesday and airfare is over $600. No thanks.

I believe the Ath Dept is having some sort of watch party. Waiting for the details.

RE: Potato Bowl
They released the depth chart today, Powell is listed as the starter at QB. Howie is listed as the backup, so probably not a good sign for him being available.

I heard somewhere, possibly from a CC interview, that Smith's injury was season ending.

Time to beat them again!

Oh, that is kind of cool! Also, I remember you commented that the Potato bowl had the advantage of playing in cold weather against warm weather opponent. I like that idea and like this draw for that reason. The players may hate it, but hopefully they will get a win out of it!

Ramy you just identified the ONLY positive in going to Idaho. I had planned on going to the Bowl Game this year, but I am not going to this one.

Eastern should have taken that into consideration before accepting that bowl invitation! Is it too late to change bowls? 07-coffee3

Sunglasses?

I think the MAC may try to rotatate schools thru Bahamas and Boise. Each has "issues" for fans.

Oh that is interesting. They have Smith listed as the backup for the bowl game, maybe they meant his injury was regular season ending and he's okay for the bowl game?

You would think they would remove him from the depth chart if he was done, but the depth charts we release aren't the most reliable.

By the way, the weather forecast is now mostly sunny and up to 30! Might have to break out the shorts haha!

"Sunshine Steve" is happy to report the new forecast high is 39 and partly sunny. Or as some would say, "FB weather in MI in November."

RE: Potato Bowl
I think this could be a great game, and I really like our chances to come away with a win.

Offensively we are pretty similar in terms of the amount of yards and points per game, but they are quite different in the way they do it. They don't run the ball much and average under 100 yards a game on the ground. Their leading rusher has under 700 yards and the QB is the second leading rusher. The QB (Cordeiro) is the key. He throws it around pretty good, and while it doesn't seem like they have a lot of designed runs for him, he seems pretty fast and will take off if need be, so we'll need to try and keep him in the pocket. Basically if Tuesday comes and they are running the ball on us...that is probably a bad sign. As someone (I apologize I can't remember who it was) posted the other day week, since moving to more man coverage the defense has gotten much better especially against the pass. They have given up 40 sacks (which is a lot and remember they only played 11 games) so hopefully Jose and the crew are able to provide pressure and shut down the run, and if they do I like our chances to limit their offense.

Their defense is pretty good, and they have a pair of good ends (one of them was their conference player of the year). So our O-line will need to have a great performance. It looks like their defense started to slip a bit down the stretch, and the teams that beat them were able to do it through the air. We have certainly been able to put up big numbers through the air IF Powell is protected. With their ends, guys like Getzinger and Oakes might be key in helping to chip and block on the edge. I think we need Samson to pound away, and hopefully he and Jackson can combine for at least 100 yards or so, that should hopefully open things up for Powell to pick them apart through the air.

There are three...hidden keys...I guess you could call them that I'll keep an eye on:

1. The weather. If it is a clear, but cold, day that could help us. They obviously won't be used to played in 30-some degree weather, but hopefully it is at least clear and won't impact Powell's ability to throw the ball.

2. Penalties. We have been awful this year and take too many, hopefully we can limit that.

3. The kicking game. Jesus gives us an edge here I think. Their kicker has only made 70% of his kicks, he has missed two from inside 30 yards and is only 9-13 from inside of 40 (he has even missed two extra points). Jesus has only missed three all year with one being blocked and one was from over 50 yards (their kicker hasn't even attempted a field goal from 50 or more).

Do we know how the refs will be selected for this game? All form one conference? If so, which one? Have they worked together all season, or will they need to get used to each other?

Has our team been practicing outside this week? I hope so. They need to get accustomed to playing in the cold, especially the southern boys. Practicing in the cold is something that SJSU cannot replicate.

Haven't driven by but have no doubt in my mind Creighton has had them practicing outside this week.

Practicing inside this afternoon. It's a closed practice so they could be working on play book. 07-coffee3
