RE: CollegeAD: Austin Peay to jump to FBS in 2025
C-USA knows THIS. If they continue to take FCS teams in large amounts or at a fast rate---they are doomed to stay 5th in the G5.

Of course to fcs teams this does not matter--they are just looking out for themselves and want out of fcs.

Why does staying 5th in G5 do so much damage?

The CFP disbursement METHOD for the G5 portion (20% of the contract-- currently 94 M) is left for the G5 leagues to decide.

Currently you get a base amount AND the rest is based on how your conference finishes as far as CFP rating strength (conf. average).

Conferences are rated 1-5 with each league getting a percentage based on their finish.
There is a big gap between first and last.

So:

-- CFP money would be less

--Media deal would be less for the weakest league

--Less bowls are possible because of a weaker league

--Less national media and bad publicity for being the basement dweller; less sponsorships

They will already have three fcs call-ups (JSU, KSU, SHSU). These schools will need time to adjust their budgets, facilities, competition level, and more.

C-USA may "push back" or at least try to delay adds as long as possible--just because of the concerns listed above.

One alternative compromise may be to set "acceptance dates" back further--- but with an iron clad deal.
Example-- School "X"--- you WILL be added-- but not till 2027 or 2028-- guaranteed.

If this does not work-- then it may come back to "who blinks first".

I largely agree with that, although I do wonder if they'd made an exception for a program like Delaware. They didn't need to take FCS when they took James Madison either. To the extent that you mean they won't take any WACSUN schools, I do agree.

But, if they take an established G5, that probably still creates movement that could involve FCS schools being taken somewhere.

JMU is a higher value compared to the current SBC teams. SBC always wanted JMU but they said no. The SBC had to work and elevate to get JMU. This is the reason why JMU is running there conference. JMU is a way bigger brand then most if not all SBC teams. You think Georgia State brand is the equvalent of JMU, no.

To be far two of the three FCS schools have budgets higher then current C-USA schools.

I didn't say Georgia State. I said Delaware. We're talking about:

-An R1 institution
-Over 24,000 students
-Great football tradition
-Good facilities with concrete plans to make them much better
-The flagship institution in the state

I know you was not talking about Georgia State. I was using GSU as an example. When I meant "you" I was not talking about you in particular but I was using the word "you" in general.
