I just saw today on google that the head coach for Tenn has gone on record on saying that he is hoping Mitchell will go into the portal with the NIL in focus so he can go after him for his team. I would call that recruiting or tempering with a athlete so far committed to the university he presently plays on, in this case U. Of Toledo. I wonder if that is a violation of NCAA rules. Until the athlete commits to the portal, no other college coach should be allow to make any commentary on any kind of media scale.

I would think a coach from another school making a statement like that would be in violation of recruiting rules. Coaches are not permitted to talk about an athlete until they sign with a team. It’s good to know it was not the coaching staff but concerning to me that, that story is out there.

Some random reporter from some podunk publication just happens to mention Mitchell's name and we're to suppose to assume that he wasn't "coached" to do so.

Hypothetically: it's too easy a rule to get around if a coach can get a reporter to say what you want instead of the coach saying it. For a reporter to write they "hope" a player enters the portal? How is that a reporter's job? If the player has on their own already entered the portal, sure maybe hope the player selects your local team. I think even that a bit edgy to put in writing.

The best player I've ever seen to play at his position, at Toledo. Great instincts and football IQ. He will likely enter the portal after the championship game, but he's been a joy to watch.
