I think you missed his point on that as well. Would he leave for another, certainly. Would he allow a desire to coach at the next level prevent him from fighting for his current school and exposing the thieves, no. Right now he is UAB’s coach and he doesn’t care about burning bridges. That is separate from someday taking a P5 job.

RE: UAB to hire Trent Dilfer as Head Football Coach.
I've noticed so many posts and responses to Dilfer's comments. Definitely gets UAB some publicity. Does Dilfer still have friends in the media? I would think yes. He is a great interview and seems to value relationships.
Would a recruiting coach/coordinator from a P5 want to risk being the guy that gets called out? Or would he just tread lightly? I think it is the promise of playing time and being in the rotation that would raise eyebrows. The money train is there and the question is do you take it for a ride and play 25% of the plays and impact your ability to get better and reviewed? If you play hundreds of plays at UAB you might be able to continue to develop your game as the game is the greatest teacher.
Dilfer is also saying that his guys are coveted. He is willing to risk the ridicule to put his guys first. The kind of stuff that can destroy brick walls.

I like Coach Dilfer's candor. As long as it's done respectfully, I'd rather someone speak frankly on an issue than talk around it or not say anything at all.

Dilfer didn't impugn anyone. He said that G5 coaches are reluctant to call out P5 programs because it might be held against them when they interview for a P5 job. I don't doubt that's a factor. I have not heard many coaches publicly call out another team for tampering.

Impugn: to assail by words or arguments : oppose or attack as false or lacking integrity. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/impugn

Video:

Transcript: (about 45 sec mark):
"And I told the American coaches the same thing. Why don't you guys have the you know what's to stand up get out of my roster. I said here's why, because you want their job"

He literally said and body language confirms that the only reason all AAC coaches do not join him is because of their heedless lust for advancement. Not only does he impugn the intergrity of all AAC coaches, but displays the conceit that only he knows how to combat (if it is even possible) the Alabama's of the football world from communicating with present players about NIL opportunities.

One can torture words to confess whatever one wants, but it does not alter reality. I invite the reader to watch the vid (for non verbal communication) and read the transcribe to come to their own conclusion.

Meanwhile, I will let some UAB fans indulge in their fantasies.

Dilfer will be a coach that will be loved by his fan base and likely seen as an A-hole to others. G5 fans, in my opinion, should atleast respect his comments about atleast attempting to stop tampering. Many people saw his comments as keeping athletes from transferring to bigger schools and getting better opportunities. That’s not what he was saying. He’s said on multiple occasions that he wants the athlete ti make the best decision they can for their future. What Dilfer is trying to attack with these comments is schools coming in and luring a player into the portal that otherwise had no intentions of leaving in the first place. Will it work? I’m not too sure. We only lost one player and it was to Alabama, where he will likely get starting minutes. I do think there is merit to the statement that many coaches will not call out tampering by name because they do want to advance themselves in the future. Dilfer is already a rich, once retired, NFL player and commentator. Not to say he wouldn’t ever leave UAB if he’s doing great, but he’s not exactly in the same position as a lot of coaches.

The clip cuts off the fifteen minutes before that where he talks about G5 guys who take NIL to sign with a P5 and find themselves 3rd string spot players. They get some money right now, but they don't play, get to develop. It costs them exposure and hurts their draft chances.

That is true across the G5, as true for your players as ours.
