Proof is in the pudding but I am liking what I see and have heard and the plan to move forward.

The BOT stayed out of the way and has approved for everything we have asked for from coaching changes, to raises, to improvement it athletic facilities and has not balked on how much we want to spend. I should also point out that the board is very different with certain members moving on and they also have a seat in our foundation for transparency but have no voting power. Is it perfect? No but it is better than it has ever been and we remain vigilant and keep our powder dry.

I'm not adverse to the hire w/ a wait & see on who he hires as assistants. Not much diff than if we hired BV which many were wanting. BV was a hs hc as well & that was his only hc exp but he had been a college OC since but can't say it was really an offense that scared me if I was a DC. His offense was a 1 tricky pony if you could stop that, you'd probably win. Didn't see where BV & staff ever developed qb/wr types so hoping Dilfer can do a better job.

I'm with the crowd who feels totally blindsided by this hire. I never saw it coming.

I'm also with the crowd who thinks it's a high-risk, high-reward kind of hire. Dilfer's success will boil down to his administrative and coaching staff.

On the admin side, he'll need an experienced director of football operations and director of recruiting who know and understand NCAA rules and standards, so his lack of collegiate experience won't be a detriment. (I have no doubts whatsoever about Dilfer's ability to recruit. It's all the administrative stuff surrounding it which would be a concern.)

After that, as with any other team in America, it all boils down to his coaches. Get him a solid OC and DC, and a staff full of competent position coaches, and UAB's upside is extremely high. If he misses with either of those coordinators, he'll spend the rest of his (likely short) HC career running damage control before moving an hour west to serve as an "analyst".

I have no horse in this race (I'm a Jax State fan) but I do wish UAB luck. I hope to see you on the schedule again someday, and it'd be really cool if you didn't suck. 03-wink

Please, let's not bring that up again. I'm not moved by pressers. It's exciting but I'll take a wait and see approach. Either way, I'll be in the stands and hopefully in Annapolis for the Navy game.

Punkinhead Watts was there, so there's your sign... but seems like Ingram was allowed to get this one on his own... Dilfer has no direct ties to "The University", in fact quite the opposite as a dude from California... so I'd say the BOTs only 'contribution' was to watch the duckets... 03-phew

Watts was there because he is the UAB president and they show up for these things
