This is not a left field hirer got Ingram. Remember he tried to hire Jason Terry for basketball with no college coaching experience. The fans and players wanted Eshan. He caved. He was not caving this time.

This is a better hire than Jason Terry would have been.

I agree. I am very excited about this hire.

RE: Trent Dilfer????
It is definitely a surprise to me since my understanding that the AD listed D1 Head coaching experience as a prime qualification. Evidently, the AD determined that the candidates meeting that criteria either didn’t want the job or were determined to not be a fit for his vision for the program.

Hopefully, it works out and the next problem will be whether we can keep him.

I like that comparison.
Deion is quite possibly the greatest defensive back to ever play in the NFL and is very charismatic. Whereas Trent was a game manager qb on a great defensive super bowl team. We'll see how this pans out but I'm definitely surprised if nothing else. By the way I wasn't in the Deion camp.

Isn't that the #1 requirement of a head coach?

I am getting excited about this hire. The landscape is changing for head coaches. Less about X’s and O’s And more about making your program known to kids. I think this will elevate our WB play significantly. I think our offense will take a boon. We will see if our defense can stay top notch.

Also I think this elevates our profile with NFL teams. Which will help our recruiting.

I think it’s a good hire if true

Another thing to look forward to on Friday. Should give us some good insight on how he coaches.

Me too. Well said 58-56. BV, Holtz or Helton? Nah, Ingram went for what was behind Door #4.

True. With Skip or BV we might have end up with 5-7, 6-6, or 7-5 seasons. This guy will definitely be a boom or bust. 10 win season or 4 win season.
If he can bring in big name recruits, transfers, and coaches, then watch out.

I am hopefully optimistic that we will catch lighting in the bottle. He will need our full support. He need to hit the ground running. https://twitter.com/cregstephenson/statu...ROd0_Hu_3Q

RE: Trent Dilfer????
I spent way too long googling variants of "Lipscomb Academy offensive scheme" last night to see what they run.

My thoughts are that there is a good chance that our first year in the AAC will be spent getting our sheet kicked in. May as well have a splashy hire doing some exciting stuff on offense that will pull in those prized recruits for the future. BV would be the lamest duck to ever be hatched if we went with him.

If we can retain Reeves on defense, this is an absolute win.

Someone mentioned getting Ray Lewis as DC, no thanks. I want to kill he competition, but not the way Ray does it

Goodman is a putz but I agree with a lot of this article. Even with the winning seasons and bowl games UAB's fanbase has not appreciably grown since the return. Games in the second half of the season are still very lightly attended. There has been ZERO buzz about the program in this market. Hiring BV, Holtz, or Helton would have been more of the same.

So Mark Ingram did a six month nation wide search and hired a high school coach from a small private school in Tennessee?
