Looking to the Future
Looks like we've got some QBs being recruited and some committed.

Ethan Crawford- 3 star out of Hillcrest (Tuscaloosa, AL)- Committed not signed
Austin Gonzalez- 3 star out of Texas- Committed not signed
Holman Edwards- Transfer from Houston
Billy Wiles- Transfer from Clemson

That's not including:

Ty Keyes (if he comes back)
Tee Webb (practice squad?)
Zach Wilcke
Kyle McCormick (practice squad?)
Dustin Allison (practice squad?)
Jack Lange

That's not counting Dr. Lowe if he comes back.

I did hear something interesting. Apparently we didn't go after QBs because of the Miles Brennan debacle. Apparently Hall had put his eggs in that basket and when Brennan decided to stay at LSU there wasn't alot of time to go chasing other QBs.

First year HC learned a lesson and this season as a 2nd year it seems he's working to correct that issue. Bring in as many as you can that can fit your system and then if they leave you still have options.. Or I hope that's what's going on..

Thoughts? I mean if he was all in and thought we had Brennan that could explain the depth issue we had. You bring in Brennan, Keyes, Lowe, and Wilcke/Lange as back ups.

I don't buy that Hall bet everything on Brennan. I'm sure he was looking for others while hoping to land Brennan.
Thanks for the info on QB's (possibly) coming in!

Good QB play can cover for a lot of shortcomings. We were a decent QB away from an 8-9 win season, so if he’s bringing in options, I get it.

I don't know if that's 100% true, it was just some speculation and it kinda makes sense.. But even then I wouldn't had pinned all our hopes and dreams on Brennan..

So I looked into the Edwards from Houston QB. He didn't have that great of numbers at East Central CC. He was the back up at Houston but lost it mid-year this season. So, he was going backwards there.

Next I'll look at Wiles. I know he was a walk-on that earned a scholarship. Just doing that at Clemson with their QBs says something.

Looks like Lowe has entered the portal. Don't know what his issue(s) were but it's understandable given the situation. I actually thought he was just done with football but if he stayed he knows there is a good chance he won't see any playing time. I think he did a good job coming in as the 4th QB and managing games, maybe with a few more reps under his belt some of those looses would have went the other way.

He's got a year left.. I'm not sure what his doctorate is in, but maybe USM doesn't offer anything that he wants to add on top of it?

I don’t think Lowe studies the game. Hall wants someone who does. Best wishes to the young man though. He has done well with his free schooling.

Yea I heard confirmation that he was gone. Hate it, but he never was the guy until the end of this season. While adequate he wasn't an Austin Davis or Nick Mullens type. Would he still be the guy with these new guys coming in?

I did hear and I can't remember what podcast it was, the guys talking were not USM guys but they were high on Billy Wiles.

Looking at his offers, Tulane offered and he committed then decommitted. Appears he was a Hall recruit. He also had early offers from ODU, Campbell, and Harvard.. Is it safe to say the QB at Tulane was a Hall recruit and if this kid is, he has that type of potential?

I dunno. We'll see what happens.

Also the kid from Tuscaloosa I think I understood had tore his ACL and should be ready by the spring. I'm a little concerned with that, but if he's good maybe he'll have loyalty if the big boys come calling.

The kid from Texas, he's a QB but being signed as an athlete which makes me wonder if this is our new "Superback".

Appears Lowe is gone to Liberty and Keyes is aiming for Syracuse.

We still feel comfortable with our QB room? I feel optimistic, but so help me if Wilcke is named the starter Day 1 out the gate in Spring.. I mean I'm sure he will be since he has experience.. And I think he's got room to grow, but he needs to be refined.

We got to remember that Wilke was a true freshman in September buried on the depth chart, getting no snaps and got thrown into the fire in that situation. I say there’s no way to really know how good or bad Wilke will be without having some practice under his belt before he plays again. It is good, though that we sign these others to make it a real competition.

Agreed. That's not counting the guys on the practice squad as well that may have some talent.

I'm surprised to hear about Keyes. I thought he and Hall were pretty tight.
I didn't see anything from Wilke that showed me he belongs at this level.
