I'm not sure Steve but I think we will add at least another OL transfer as Edified has suggested in a previous post. Whether that will be a starter I don't know. Don't forget Carson Lee who sat out this year.
I am afraid of experience, or lack thereof.
Mayo didn't play much at WV. Others like Conti ditto at EMU. What I feel is that we do NOT know how good our holdover backups are.
Remember reading press clippings and 247 stars doesn't mean much if a 84 rated player is beat out by an 80 player.
Our OL backups, other than Howie's backup, didn't play much the best I can tell during 2022.

Good call 79, if Lee is able to step in and fill that starter spot then we are in a really good space with that 5. After tjem we need depth

Don't forget Rewolinski. He was a fairly big recruit and will be a RS sophomore (I believe) this year, got some starting experience with Howie's injurie. At the very least he'll be a solid depth guy.
Carson Lee will be interesting. He was one of the top center's in the country coming out of high school. Hopefully he can make a big impact.

https://twitter.com/chris_mayo76/status/...8014838785
A big time get! He was a high three star on 247 and a four star on rivals from New Jersey, he'd be our biggest recruit ever had he come right out of high school. He had offers from Kentucky, Purdue, Arizona State, Auburn, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wake Forest before committing to West Virginia. Once he announced he was transferring he had offers from basically everyone in the MAC.
He didn't play his first two years and neither of them counted against his eligibility (COVID year and then a redshirt year). This year he saw action in one game as a RS freshman.
With losing both Sow and Bates this is a big boost to the O-line.
Very big get for us. Edified called this a short while back. Not sure how Edified knows all this, but he is plugged in and I certainly appreciate it.
With Johnson leaving and Bates and Sow graduating this is a major addition we needed.
We still Dooley and Howie and hopefully Mayo is close to as good as they are. We still need others to step up. Dmitri? Rewolinski? McAdams? Strey?
With him, I think we have another top O-line in the MAC
Samson should have 0 problems rushing
He is a lock for first team All-MAC
I love hearing that Edified, and I want to be an optimist. Is Mayo as good as Johnson? I'm just wondering about other players being able to have the same production as those leaving. I think Dooley and Howie are great but there's a lot of question marks, no?
Asking another question: Does Dooley stay at RT or move over to LT?
Just because Dooley has played RT doesn't mean he isn't or can't play LT.
There is no immediate plan to switch the right-side anchors anywhere. There is experience there that you lose if you shift them, which gives you five guys trying to learn a new O-Line format, as opposed to three needing to learn and two who just need to push themselves where they already do well. Not to mention they have grown accustomed to talking and making reads together as they get to the line, and playing off each other once the ball snaps.
That's not to say that things won't change come Spring Ball when they can get a real look at how it all fits together. As Alex has told me a few times, the coaches want the guys to be able to play across the line if ever needed. Coach Coughlin will do what he needs to do to field the best possible O-Line.

The problem with the OL is that no one has seen Lee, Conti, etc. play actual games. (I may go back and check the number of games played by these reserve OLs).
Until they have played a number of games, who knows how good they are.

Carson is a center
Believe me I made the mistake of calling him a guard on the phone a couple weeks back and he went off on me
So maybe next year for Carson unless he or Dimitri wants to move
And out of the 2 of them it ain't gonna be Carson
Dimitri moving seems like it will be the only way Carson starts

Lee played 0. Conti played 10 games in 2021 and 2022. Another name we haven't mentioned on the OL is Rewolinski.

Yeah, I know Grant Leeper and CJ Horton have both posted on Twitter about their offers
There is another couple of guys that we are talking to. One of which I thought we were close to offering. Not sure what has happened with him but just assume that the coaches are still talking with him. But if they aren't I don't want to throw a name out and it not stick to the wall and go anywhere.

Marcello Bussey kindly contacted me last night and said he would be committing today.
Not to Eastern but to Memphis.
He finally announced publicly the same thing he told me.

So I take it we are still looking to add a receiver or two? Any of last year's WR PWO looking good?
