Exclamation O/T This thread (recruiting) is for our football dad
He and we always say with prospects you know what the are when you sign them but you do NOT know what they'll be when they leave you.

In 2018, a fairly lightly recruiting from Lansing named Karl Brooks signed with BGSU. Was ranked around 50 by ?.

https://247sports.com/player/karl-brooks-46051775/

He was a 6'4" 220 lbs linebacker.

Today, he is still 6' 4", but 300 lbs and an all-American DL as picked by Pro Football Focus.

One never knows who will develop and exceed expectations and who will under achieve.

One never knows who will develop and exceed expectations and who will under achieve.

A couple paragraphs from Toledo Blade about how we went from a Megatron wannabe to a DL.

“He started out here playing some wide receiver, some safety,” said Johnel Davis, Brooks’ high school coach at Sexton High School in Lansing. “He thought he was Megatron [retired Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson]. He ran some track. He was a tall, lanky kid.”

Gradually, Brooks bulked up, going from 185 pounds as a sophomore to 225 as a junior to 260 as a senior. Division I interest followed, and Brooks committed to play for the Falcons in February 2018.

***********

Since most recruiting is done during the player's junior year and post-junior year summer camps, a 'late bloomer' likely gets missed by many schools.

If a player puts on 30 - 40 lbs after his junior season, some schools will have completely missed it.

A different player then what they saw as a h.s. junior.
