Freeze's Liberty departure, the good and the bad
The good. Freeze had a very successful 4 year run. He exceled the program beyond what most people thought possible. Bowl wins, big wins, and the most important factor LU was seeking: achieving visibility and validation which Freeze accomplished.

The Bad. Freeze departs on a downturn. Reports say he and his agent were communicating after the Arkansas game. And LU lost the next 3 games after that. His sharpness, focus and intention were obviously divided between two teams. That's a recipe for LU losses. It was more HC lack of effort and consistency than the players.

The Departure. Thanks for the good things that you did. And don't let the door hit you in the ass as you leave. Rather than departing with hugs and kisses and good wishes, a sourness lingers in how he handled the exit. The 4 year run was a success with 8+ wins each year. Then the last 3 weeks when the LU team was let down by it's HC.

The LU/NMSU debacle clearly was a game where the players knew they were playing for an uncommitted coach hence the quality and intent of their play. A top 10 LU defense was deservedly so listless.

So now, if LU does go bowling, who coaches the game? Hopefully the AD was kept abreast and has candidates vetted and can quickly name a successor. Committed LU players will now be enticed by other schools. The transfer protocol begins in a few days and LU, without a HC, is in a vulnerable position.

I wish I could be more appreciative of what Freeze did. But his departure and how he used LU really pisses me off.

ASOR is saying he wants to name a new HC within a week. That tells me that HCHF was honest about the Auburn contact and intent and that Ian has been working toward this event over the past weeks.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I concur. Went from being the biggest hero to the biggest villain outside of Jr. to most of the LU Football committee.

Speaking of Jr.....these two have been in close contact even after everything

RE: Freeze's Liberty departure, the good and the bad
If this team can accomplish what it did with a coach who seemed to care more about golfing on Thursday than he did about winning here, imagine what this team can accomplish with a Coach who's all in. I'm really grateful for what Freeze accomplished in the short time he was here. But after hearing comments like now he can't golf since he's at Auburn or hearing that he asked for less P5 games, kind of makes you wonder what could have been if Freeze hadn't been fixated with the SEC. I'm more excited than ever for the future of Liberty football with a Coach who seems to have total focus on Liberty.

Seems that Freeze was bored at LU after last season. Maybe that is a good thing. He did many good things with his arrival. His was a good hire that brought lots of attention to the program. And his departure was likely as beneficial to the program as his arrival. If he had remained, the blemish of last year's constant name mentioning for a SEC opening had to distract him, the coaches and the team. Chadwell has said all the right things with his arrival. If he continues with his upward trend of success he too will be a highly sought after HC for a P5 program.

The best case scenario is that he wins the CUSA conference and make the 12 team playoff. That makes his more desirable as a HC and helps LU to be more appealing to a higher conference, which everyone knows is LU;s intention. "To play at the highest level" as has been stated many times is P5 not G5.

The soon to be CUSA membership is positive for LU now, as the Big South was and as indy has been and as the ASun is and has been. LU has been a good fit in all places. If Chadwell can win the CUSA conference that excels what Freeze accomplished. If he gets CUSA post wins that even more so increases his HC appeal. And it benefits LU.
