Huskie Stadium Turf
I remember much was made after the 2007 season about the turf at huskie stadium, which was then replaced. I wonder if we might see another turf replacement this off-season?

They certainly need to replace it, at minimum due to safety concerns. I think it only has a 7-8 year life span and we are way past that.

Current Turf was installed in spring of 2015 so it should be replaced this spring but I'm guessing they won't do it til 2024

Prior to 2015 turf was replaced in 2009

Good catch. Guess niuhuskies.com website folks need to update their language about Huskie Stadium. It still only mentions 2009 for field replacement.

Unfortunately Bayer probably couldn't give two sh!ts about slapping this name on one of our stadiums.

I always assumed the State of Illinois outline was a nod to the high school football finals being played in Huskie Stadium. But, yeah, it has pretty much faded out and is pretty much indistinguishable.

Also, Illinois has a similar outline at Memorial Stadium. Possibly something the IHSA required?

I think the state outline on our field was just a way to say we rep the people of Illinois, not just a region as per our unfortunate directional name. I also think U of I added theirs well after ours. Product of hosting the state football championships? Not sure...

Yes, I heard it was a requirement of both schools.

Same here. It's a nice touch. I also love the star on DeKalb. Running into games with the Illinois flag is a nice touch too.

I can't see how the IHSA has any kind of say in what either NIU or UofI puts on their football field.

If you want to hold state championship events, they have a say in virtually everything.

Having a permanent fixture on the football field is much more than requiring a basketball arena to adhere a sticker to the floor for the event.

I've been to Carver Arena in Peoria and I've watched plenty of Illinois basketball games and IHSA doesn't require either of them to have a permanent state of Illinois painted on center court of their basketball floor so excuse me if I think the IHSA is not dictating the field design and/or center logo of their football fields.

If it is the case, I'd love to see the evidence. But I can't find it and I'm not even sure what I'd look for such information.

EDIT: Ok....somehow, I just looked and I'm now realizing UofI actually does have the state of Illinois on the basketball court but I'm 100% certain Bradley does not and has never had it on their court.

Maybe the NIU Huskie Stadium grounds crew accidently used permanent paint for the IHSA football games.

It was a Snickers moment just like the guy that painted "Chefs" at the Arrowhead Stadium
