Names I believe could be mentioned for the TX State Job
Todd Graham: Former Coach at Rice, Tulsa, Pittsburgh, Arizona State and Hawaii. It sounds like dude is bat **** crazy but he wins. 106-72. He also has alot of connections to Texas High School Football.

Eric Morris : current offensive coordinator at Washington State and former Head Coach at Incarnate Word. School was 1-10 the year prior to his arrival and turned it around to 6-5, 6-5 and 10-3 when he left for the OC job at Washington State.

Chad Morris: A dark horse on my list was horrible at Arkansas but had an impressive turn around at SMU and he's a Texas High School coaching legend.

Chad Morris isn't a super motivator.

Texas State needs a smart, detail-oriented, motivational coach.

Eric Morris would be great. Not sure he wants to move on in back to back years but I would be happy with him.

What about Graham Harrell (WVU OC)? He's a good OC in a bad system. He played at Texas Tech and is from Texas. He is a student of the air raid and I think he'd bring a LOT of excitement to the TXST offense and fanbase.

People have wanted him in the past but are we really going to hire the WVU OC again? The optics look funny even if it is a better hire than Spav.

What about Major Applewhite? Doesn't he have lots of ties in the state of Texas?

Most don't want him. He has been fine at USA as OC but struggled at Houston as HC. He did interview last time so I am sure he will pop up again.

Right now our fans are high on Keeler. Followed by Eric Morris and maybe Kinne at Incarnate Word. Others names pop up and then some wonder if we should throw money at Gary Patterson or Tom Herman.

This is a must. Have to rebuild high school recruiting.

Withers came in and burned a lot of bridges with Texas high school coaches. Then Spav came in a burned all that was left by being the Portal guy. Need a HC who know Texas and has a staff and guys that can and want to recruit high schools in the State.

We have 17 starters already graduating or in the Portal, it will be time to rebuild yet again but this time needs a better balance of the Portal and high school kids.

I was impressed with him the brief time he was our interim HC. He turned around the demeanor of the team immediately. He also owned up to mistakes and went about correcting them. I haven’t kept up closely with how he’s doing at Austin Peay, but I know they gave WKU all they could handle pretty deep into their game this season.

My concern would be he doesn’t have the experience yet to be handed the keys to an FBS program in need of a major build. I’d keep my eye on him for down the road, though.

You are probably right. I doubt he wants to go to CUSA!

It looks like the guy has had a lot of success as a head coach. His age works against him a little, but he looks like he could be someone that can consistently get them to a bowl game.

RE: Names I believe could be mentioned for the TX State Job
I’ll give you a name that you probably won’t know. The OC at Incarnate Word, Mack Leftwich. He is very young, played QB for UTEP and was a grad assistant there.

https://uiwcardinals.com/sports/football...twich/2614

He has gotten UIW to the number 2 offense in FCS, 20th in rushing, 2nd in passing, 1st in passing efficiency and in scoring.

I just know about him because I was looking for potential OCs for Marshall, but if he can bring in a veteran DC he could well be a golden child. Oh, also their QB has eligibility left and has thrown 50 TDs and only 4 Ints this year. Make it a package deal.

A little OT but I'd love to see Nealy brought on staff in some offensive capacity. He could coach WRs, TEs or QBs and give GS fans flashbacks.

My opinion is he's too young/inexperienced for a FBS head coach position right now. Still a few years away. With his young age, he needs to get back into FBS as a coordinator - I could see him being an OC somewhere at a low-mid level P5 school for a few more years to prove himself and then leave for a HC position at a G5 somewhere. Right now, still too young.

Walden's offenses were never anything special at USM. He's energetic as a case of Red Bull though, if that's what you're looking for, and he has some nice Texas HS ties.
