BIG conference name change
Will the BIG change their name to the Big 16 if and when they finally do add USC and UCLA?

As others have noted, the name big 10 has a lot of established brand value- imo they are not changing the name even if they have 30 teams.

RE: BIG conference name change
Barring something unforeseen, none of the five all-sports power leagues should do a name change. That would be bad for marketing/branding.

If, for example, the SEC adds some programs from the West Coast ... keep the SEC moniker.

Adopting the "B1G" styling as opposed to "Big Ten" would appear to have contemplated going to 16 teams in the future as the "1G" part can be seen as "16".

I understand this, but I hate it.

No publicity is bad publicity and all that, but I never hear/think about the ones that are wrong without also thinking about how stupid their name is.

But I think the reasoning is that at least I'm thinking about them, even if there is an added "man, their name is stupid" attached to it. If anything, having to think that just keeps them front of mind longer.

But the Big 10 has been wrong for like 30 years. They're not changing just because they're a little more wrong.

I get where you are coming from but then the ACC, PAC-12, and SEC should all change their names as well. Kentucky and Indiana are not Atlantic Coast states. The SEC stretches far beyond the southeast. Utah, Arizona, and Colorado are not Pacific Coast states.

I believe the Big 12 owns the Big 16 name and had it reserved - when the four corners schools arrive I'm sure they will switch to Big 16

RE: BIG conference name change
If the ACC added Stanford/Cal/Wash/Oregon they could change the name to AMERICAN COASTS CONFERENCE, be accurate and still be the ACC

I wouldn't mind the SEC going back to the Southern Conference....

Maybe B5G and get a wireless provider as a sponsor!

Its not so obviously a mismatch.

A10, Horizon and Summit (who would guess its a midwest conference?) names need to go away. Big 12 will at least be 12 again.
Big 10 can be the one oddball.

The Big 10 could have 82 members and they wouldn’t for a second consider a name change

RE: BIG conference name change
Perhaps they should go back to their original name: the Western Conference. "Hail, hail, to Michigan, the champions of the West!"

Just kidding, seeing that Rutgers and Maryland are barely west of the Atlantic Ocean.

Big Ten will always be their name.

There already is a Southern Conference.

The SEC split off from the Southern in 1933.

RE: BIG conference name change
Well if they did I would go with a simple fix. The BIG + is what I would go with just a simple adjustment to everyone that would hardly be noticed. BIG+ makes to be a nice logo, and you know their all about saving money towards a committee coming up with names etc.

RE: BIG conference name change
Union-Pacific should be the name after they essentially absorb the PAC 12 schools. I mean there must be a Promontory Point to it somewhere, right? Which of course is why they should take Utah too! Leeland Stanford used a silver hammer to drive to the final golden spike. It's fitting. Warren can use a silver pen to sign the golden contract.

Oregon, Washington, Stanford, California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Notre Dame or Kansas to 24.

If they didn't change it at 11, 12, or 14 I feel pretty safe saying they won't change it a 16, 18 or 20. I wouldn't be surprised if they updated the logo.

Gonna use that two-story lowercase g to hide an 18 in the logo.
