The SEC stretches far beyond the southeast. Utah, Arizona, and Colorado are not Pacific Coast states.

The PAC isn't so offensive as it stands now - while some of the states don't aren't directly on the coast, but they are states that all tend to view themselves as "Pacific". They're also the ones who have done name changes voluntarily recently by updating the number they use to be consistent with the current amount of teams.

They could just buy the rights to the name of the defunct A&P grocery store name.

My alma mater has been a part of the "Western Athletic Conference" and the "Big West" despite being located in Louisiana (I guess while we were in those conferences, the implication was "west of the Mississippi, at least a little bit").

RE: BIG conference name change
There's a claim (not sure if it's really true) that the names Big 14 and Big 16 have been trademarked by the Big 12 ever since the conference formed in 1996.

I'm not an expert on trademark law, so even if the Big 12 used to have those trademarks, I don't know if those trademarks would be revoked since the Big 12 has never used them in 26 years of existence.

They should change the name to the Big 24. Call it an aspirational goal. And then watch the PAC and the ACC sweat.
