I've seen absolutely nothing to indicate that Fox has more basketball rights than ESPN does. I think ESPN gets like the first 8 choices or something like that.

ESPN is essentially the primary Big 12 basketball carrier while Fox is the secondary one.

I assume that you have sources that I lack b/c of your long history in Realignment matters, do you have an actual breakdown of the big 12 basketball rights? All I've seen is "fox is getting some big 12 basketball" and "ESPN gets the big 12 championship in basketball" without any breakdown otherwise as to how it's split up. Thompson's tweet seems to imply a lot more big 12 basketball on Fox than I would have expected from what I've read, but he would likely know more about the actual breakdown than me ofc.

I don't think it was in print, but from my recollection, on the Marchand and Ourand podcast (John Ourand being the Sports Business Journal reporter that broke the Big 12 deal story), they talked about ESPN getting the first pick of basketball games (top 20 games?) plus the Big 12 Tournament rights.

This agreement has nothing to do with TV contracts. They were paired this way so we would be able to say “the B1G ACC Challenge.” 03-drunk

It's not even arguable, the big 12 is clearly the best basketball conference today. But otherwise, Bob is spot on as always.

Oh you mean Kansas and the Nine Dwarfs? Take Kansas out and who else? That COVID 19 fluke Baylor national championship team that got blown out by Marquette last night?

Right. I’ve already given him stats in other threads he ignores. Conference win percentage, tournament performance, titles, etc. He’s a Big XII fan, is what it is. The Big XII has had a good run for a few years but any thought this is permanent is highly suspect.

Some people want to chalk up the fact that covid restrictions were in place during the 2021 tournament that it became a "Mickey Mouse" Tournament of sorts. Certainly, Covid restrictions resulted in teams missing out a number of games during the season. Baylor included.

This might have some merit if it actually impacted the players on the court during the tournament, but only one team missed the tourney or had players sit because of covid during the tourney. That team was VCU and they played on the other side of the bracket, giving Oregon an automatic advancement from the first round. That Oregon team then immediately lost in the second.

Then they try and tie into Baylor having bad games two years later with an almost entirely different roster as evidence that the team from 2021 was somehow bad.

Somehow that all translates to, "Baylor won a fluke tourney, they should get an asterisk, etc." Anyone that has knowledge of college basketball knows how good that Baylor team was and how competitive that tournament was. There was some instant classics in every part of the bracket. I think it really just comes down to people not liking Baylor for other reasons or not liking Scott Drew. But, love it or hate it, he has a ring.

Stay bitter haters. That banner will hang even more nicely in the new arena.

He's also ignoring the fact that Baylor was 2nd in the country behind Kansas in 2020 when the tournament got cancelled. Their title isn't a mickey mouse title or anything close. That was a great team that brought back a lot of pieces.
