This! Their 2023 returning players leading in rushing, receiving, and tackles are all from IL. Number one on the list if he decides to leave would be WR Corey Crooms.

Ill take this one step further and see if he has interest in coming on as an Assitant coach. TH probably has some sort of rapport coaching the last couple years against him, he has Illinois roots right from NIU's backyard and seems to land the better players out of our state each year.

A bigger school might go after him, but hire him as QB coach and recruiting coordinator and let one of those guys go.

For sure, Tim Lester has been recruiting a lot of talent out of Illinois. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Luke Fickell tries to add Lester to his staff. Cincinnati seemed to be getting some top recruits out of Illinois as well and I bet it would be easier for him to recruit them to Wisconsin than Cincy.

My guess is he'd get P5 QB coach or G5 OC job. But interestingly, he does have a bit of an NIU connection from his time at Syracuse. Jason Onyebuagu (TE Coach) was a GA at 'Cuse when Lester was QB Coach. His time at Syracuse was under former NIU DC Scott Shafer who'd always liked Lester as a player.

Our OC is fine. We should look at their DC Esposito. I felt he's done a good job.

Northwestern understands when you have a bad season decisions have to be made.

I think Fitz was personal friends with the DC and still fired his ass. TH better make some moves soon for recruiting.

The reason Lester was fired was he got rid of the "Row the boat" cheer that Fleck installed as a "new" fan tradition.

I think people really got upset when the "defensive stop dance" that was performed to a Metallica song was scrapped by Lester.

Interesting. They had a season where they were 128 of 131 teams in FBS in ppg and had the most turnovers in the fbs. He fired the DC? The offensive staff change was letting go of the WR coach which promptly sent his best WR into the portal.

RE: Tim Lester Out at Western Michigan
Northwestern's record year to year exactly mirrors their QB play. Which is kind of like what our team has done the last two seasons.

In some ways we're lucky that Rocky didn't stay healthy enough this year to power us to 6 wins and a bottom tier bowl. That would have papered over the clear problems that exist.
