Their embattled DC Ilaisa Tuiaki has resigned and is moving on to another challenge. I'm interested to see who emerges as candidates as the defense is losing a bunch of players this year and the run defense has been viewed as their Achilles heal for the past 2 years.

I haven't followed BYU much this year after they played Baylor - was the defense really bad and he was forced out or was this a personal decision to resign?

The defense allowed at least 20 points in every game, including to FCS Utah Tech.
#130 in sacks. Very conservative scheme and play calling. Usually rushed 3 and dropped 8 into coverage. A 4-man bull rush was about as exotic as we saw. We finally saw some line stunts and a couple of linebacker blitzes the last 3 games. We saw our first DB blitz of the year this last game against Stanford.

At least the defense was consistent. Gave up between 20-28 points to everyone except for Arkansas (52), Oregon (41), and Liberty (41).

A bit of a shake up at BYU likely a good thing.

BYU hires Weber State's head coach, Jay Hill, as new BYU DC:

Also hired former BYU player and coach, Kelly Poppinga, as new defensive coach - likely to oversee special teams and linebackers.
