I'm talking about the University, not the AD...although, we lose more money per year than they do through their ADs too.
Then we need more payday games right? No more fireworks at gamss if we are hemoraging? Find our grads better jobs so they pay it back?

Need to cut dead-weight and work on the moneymakers when a business isn't running a surplus, right? There are some pretty huge fiscal losers at UT, including athletics which runs a fund deficit equal to 10% of the entire operating budget of the University. Going to be a tough next few years at UT...

No MAC sports make money.

Correct...UT's loses more than any other University in the MAC...that's unsustainable for a University that will have cut roughly $75M off it's operating budgets over the last 4 years and will have seen its primary revenue source cut off to the tune of 40% decline in the last decade.

From reading all this budget stuff, sounds like UT needs a Mitch Daniels type to find the fat.

Candle to Cincinnati
Allegedly candle was involved in the first round of interviews (via zoom, 25+ people interviewed). Sean Lewis from Kent is rumored to be one of the finalists. No news on any others.

Openly interviewing when one's job is in jeopardy and playing in conference title game tomorrow. How does a HC preach "the twelve is one" crap before a game. Interesting dynamics. College football couldn't be any more screwed up

Any coach with one year left on deal would interview whenever possible

This is not like the Campbell cut and run

Linguist and Candle were dropped after initial interviews. It appears they're going to do 3-4 in person interviews with Lewis, Guidugli, and Golesh expected to be 3 (my guess is Leonhard is still I nervous contention but there are way fewer connections between him and the people reporting.

I agree. Even if he stays, it's important to have connections. That betters the team the coach is at. I wouldn't expect any less that he both be asked to interview and that he takes the interview.

I think Cincinnati needs a proven D1 coach going into B12 play. This isn't the old UC where they can take unproven HC. I think Leonhard is like Fickell was in 2011 with OSU and needs a few years at a MAC school as HC. Maybe we could swap him for Candle. I'm sure UC will need a OC. Golesh excites me as a possible replacement for a MAC coach also. Just think UC has too much momentum and is making a nice size jump in competition to hire anyone unproven. Harbaugh looks to have some nice young coaches that will be filtering out into jobs in the next couple years. Wonder if Lewis gets a HC job if Kent would look at Clinkscale at UM he's from Youngstown.

Is this a surprise? Cincy fans would burn the stadium down if Candle were hired.

There were some nuts on one of the insider boards saying they would be excited by that hire...the response to that was akin to the first 7 hours of Desert Storm.

That guy has walked things back since he hasn't gotten any secondary confirmation...the Tennessee guys seem to think there's something to it, but they can't confirm

Like a lot of other things there is little community vision in the aggregate or $ support for UT.

I don't know if that's true, but Amos Muzyad Yaqoob Kairouz grew up in Toledo and was devoutly Catholic. When he was confirmed by Bishop Stritch, he developed a close relationship with him and maintained it even after he became Cardinal Stritch. He always went to him for spiritual counseling and when he wanted to be an actor, he asked the Cardinal how that could happen. Stritch told him to commit to a tribute to St Jude, the patron saint of impossible causes, and so he did. Cardinal Strich was from Memphis, Tennessee. I always assumed that is why St Jude's hospital is in Memphis. Also, Appalachia was an impoverished area at the time and probably needed a free clinic.

First of all- I am not Catholic so I do not understand the subtleties of St. Jude. Very interesting indeed. Thank you for your reaction to my post. I love Toledo and our University. I am completely frustrated by our leadership. I have been for a long time.

Danny Thomas was a good man who enabled great things to happen through St Jude. Your post was very thought provoking. Thank you

Go Rockets!!

They always say be careful what you wish for. But with Toledo winning the MAC and if we win our bowl game or at lest play like champions, Candle could get another offer from somewhere

Yes indeed, Liberty U has been up and down this past season as they have sported a nice 8-4 record with some close wins over inferior opponents. They also have wins against some quality competition, BYU and Arkansas.
