Coaching Carousel
With the regular season over, the rush to fire and hire coaches will pick up quickly. In addition to SBC coaches who are gone or soon will be, how many SBC coaches will get poached by P5 schools?

SBC Coaching Hot Seat
Tx St. - Jake Spavital - OUT
Ark St. - Butch Jones - Hot Seat

SBC Coaches Likely to get P5 Offer
Coastal - Jamey Chadwell
So. AL - Kane Wommack
Troy - John Sumrall
JMU - Curt Cignetti
Marshall - Charles Huff

Current P5 Vacancies
Auburn (in talks with Hugh Freeze)
Wisconsion hired Luke Fickell
CO (in talks with Deion Sanders)
AZ St.
GA Tech
Stanford
Cincy

Cignetti may get a mention (or two) when P5 openings get discussed, but he’s not going to leave JMU, at least not voluntarily.

One name not on the list is Helton at Georgia Southern. Should he win a bowl game (or two) I wouldn’t be surprised to see his career resurrected at a lower P5. A winning pedigree at GSU and past USC tenure might make him attractive to a struggling P5 in the SEC or Big 10.

LH, I can certainly get thinking Cig will probably stay but I can't understand being so certain of it. I do feel he's far more likely to stick around than I thought Withers or Houston were, but it's never anywhere close to a certainty.

What’s his salary with bonuses?

RE: Coaching Carousel
Wommack is a good coach and might get some interest from P5, but he's only in his second year as a head coach. I can't see many fans of P5 schools willing to take a chance on a coach with one winning season on his resume. Maybe a lower level P5 school will take that leap of faith but realistically I think Kane has another year or two of winning at the G5 level before moving on. South is going to need to pony up in the off season. I think our biggest threat right now is losing Applewhite to another G5 coaching position.

I doubt John Sumrall leaves after this season but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I don’t think Huff will get an enticing enough P5 offer for next year. More likely it will be the following year but my guess is he that stays put next year.

Not that I believe he would leave for an AAC school, but I believe he was the DC at Tulane before coming to Troy with Neal Brown. They have an opening now that Fritz has been hired by GT. I don't think Sumrall leaves after one season either, but you never know.

Remember that Cincinnati becomes P5 next year, so if Fickel moves on that spot is open.

I also tend to think he'd be content to stay and build his legacy, like his Dad did.
That said, I'm also not as absolutely convinced as Longhorn is. And I did find it a bit odd that he mentioned in his postgame TV interview, that he felt good enough to coach 10-15 more years. Seemed like something you'd say to potential future employers rather than your current one. It just seemed out of place.

No G5 coach will do more to market himself than Huff. At this point his resume isn't that strong but he is a salesman.

I know Wisconsin is Big10, but hard to believe Cincy can't match the contract offer by Wisconsin. They'll start enjoying the P5 payday soon enough. Well that theory is gone, Milwaukee Journal reporting Fickell is new Wisconsin Head Coach.

Sumrall isn't leaving this year.

He is still considered unproven for being a 1st year head coach, who was previously a LB coach at Kentucky.

He's also not going to move to an AAC school like Tulane, just to restart a new culture after working hard to rebuild Troy's.

How do all of you feel about CFB coaching carousels in the free agency era (transfer portal + NIL)? You get to 10 wins and before you even play in the conference championship game or bowl, news reports start flying that ******* P5 school "x" is interviewing your coach. I've seen the sentiment that some fans (even on Ragin' Pagin) want to be in a position to be a stepping stone school, but with free agency...not sure if that still holds true.

2nd year coach going 9-4 with a win over a good ND will turn some heads. He'll take interviews. Doubt he gets hired this year.
