At least, they improved in some areas. As EMU made more three's and shot a higher percentage on three's than UCSD did. EMU made more foul shots than UCSD did.

Acuff played a good game and shot his three's well.

Both Emoni and Noah should have shot more three's and not settle
for so many two-point jump shots.

Both need to shoot better at the foul-line.

Emoni did a great job rebounding. Needs to keep doing that. Has to cut his turnovers down. Made a critical one at the end of the game.

Geeter and Lovejoy continue to foul far more than they should. Heath needs to address that.
Keep the faith Miggy. Talk me off the ledge, I don't want to give up on this team!

Makes you wonder if the team could play better team ball without Bates. They sure aren't winning with him. The whole offense seems hurried and Helter skelter. Second half at least the defense and rebounding improved.

RE: Mens basketball ?
Given the lack of commentary on the board here, I am guessing people are losing hope with the 1-6 start. But I still have a lot of confidence this will turn around. The guys on EMU said something to the effect, “This team is too talented and Heath too good a coach for this to continue. And when they start winning, they will come in bunches.” I really agree with this.

Emoni and Noah both really want to win- very competive-and are soooo talented. Tyson had the best game of the three today as Emoni and Noah did not shoot that well, but the play of all thee kept them in the game. What EMU needs is to figure out this frontcourt. Maybe it is just a matter of their development which will come in time. But I think there is something more the coaching staff can do with them in the meantime. Maybe some designed plays so they get more in the rhythm of the game, or maybe a new defensive scheme. Not sure.

The biggest need for this team is a big man that can control the paint. There is absolutely nothing under the basket that opponents have to worry about. Way to many easy hoops by opponents. Randle is confused and lost defensively, Geeter is just not big enough or athletic enough, Billingsley seems disinterested, etc. Ballard should get some PT but my guess is that Heath is more focused on the future than the current.

This team also lacks intensity at the start of a game. It wasn't until about 5 minutes left in the game that they seemed determined to make something happen. Way to lackadaisical and that's on Heath.

Dude, we are all well aware of how the games have gone so far this season but thanks for that timely reminder.
Bob, I thought this team had the potential to be great, but we're losing to teams that I can't believe! I really want to support Heath in every way, especially since we're all Hurons, but I'm shocked at this start! Nothing really matters until January 3rd though! Kent St lost to #2 Houston 49-44 yesterday!
I know, man. We are all frustrated. The start to the season is a total nightmare. I've never been so pissed because, yeah, this team should be winning. What really infuriates me is that some people (person) here--not you, seems to be taking delight in this horrendous stretch that we are in. I am going down with this ship because I believe we can turn this thing around. At this point though, I wouldn't blame anyone for bailing.

Why don't give us a name Bob? So we once again tell you how full of it you are.

Not interested in arguing. I just wanna see this team win because lord knows for 9 years under Murphy, we gave up all hope. Support the team or not, hopefully things get turned around and the team realizes it's potential.

RE: Mens basketball ?
Everyone's comments are right-on. In defense of the team, in most games they shoot well, but not today shooting two's.

Offensively, EMU needs to live or die shooing lots of three's and drive to the hoop. Noah, a 40 percent plus three point shooter can' take just 2-3's as he did today. Heath has to put in lots of inside-out plays so perimeter can shoot open three's. Don't believe he has.

UCSD shot but 26 percent on three's. They shot but 30 percent coming into the game. That tells me EMU made no special effort to deny UCDC three's. If so, that's worrisome going forward?

EMU needs to take chances by going for offensive rebounds, otherwise they'll likely be out-rebounded by big margins.

UCSD made a lot of lay-ups at the rim. I suspect that's because the front court defenders are playing away from the rim. They can't do that. Randle has to be taught to stay both close the rim, and not foul. Only chance for EMU to defend inside. He was a terrific shot-blocker in HS.

EMU players need to discipline themselves not to foul through the game, not just in the first half. Both Lovejoy and Geeter have to sit next to Heath if they foul.

I would like to suggest that Emoni be switched from guard (which really I don't understand him being 6'10" guard) to center. He's big enough he plays bigger. He's faster and quicker than most real centers. He's rebounding would be next to none 20-30 a game. His put backs would be about half of those. Almost half the put backs would end in fouls/ free throws. We can start coaching today. It would have to a secret until the MAC season starts. So for the rest pre MAC season he would have to keep playing as he has unfortunately. Then surprise! He's our center. We have too many shooters not enough bigs under the basket that can get the rebounds and put backs.

He should play inside at PF or C on defense. He'd be good doing so if he didn't foul. He might resist doing so, but it would surely help the team and his career. Hope he reads this and volunteers to do so. Such will cause problems on the perimeter, but EMU has to do something.

This might actually be a good idea! He is the tallest on the team.

Have you guys watched the games? Emoni has ZERO desire to mix it up inside. He may be 6'10" but he plays like 6'3". I was absolutely shocked today when he just allowed a breakaway layup instead of trying to block the shot of a small guard.

Jerry, I agree. I'm not an EMU basketball fan but I did watch him play at Oakland. There is not a better shot maker I have ever seen, but so far he has not shown any desire to dig in on the defensive end or do any of the intangibles you need to win games. The best talent is Bates, but the most valuable player might be the PG, Farakhan.

I suspect that with proper training and motivation any defects in his abilities at center position can be rectified. He is young and I hope trainable. This should have the natural position for him from the beginning. His talent and skills are being wasted at the guard position. He would never make it at the guard position in the nba.

That means we have 3 shooters and 1 ball. Back to the Murphy style of offensive. Ball hogs. 07-coffee3

Dear Friends,
I don't understand how many here hope things are going to change once the league season starts. Like do things automatically change because we are playing different teams? I do hope things get better, but when we are not playing well now, I have little faith that things are going to change.
I have not been to any games, so I am only saying what I feel from reading other comments about the team. However, it seems to me Eastern is being outcoached, and Heath is not putting proper players in the right positions.

I guess both of you aren't looking at the shooting percentages. He takes a lot of shots and isnt hitting them. But here's a point fanboys miss. This team was actually playing better basketball last year at this time against a tougher schedule without Bates. Yuck yourselfs silly on that and enjoy being 1-6.
