RE: Spavital out at Texas State
They plan to break ground next year to improve the locker room/weight room. They said funding had been on track to do so when they last gave an update. And talent hasn't been the biggest issue in San Marcos. The coaches have been pretty trash though.

Withers ran players off the team and had us down to less players on scholarship than FCS teams have. Spav insisted we play guys like Hatcher that can't hit a down field pass if the WR was wide open.

Of course we lose something like 15 starters to graduation this year so it will be more rebuilding.

I know Bobcat fans are happy. Going to be some good coaches out there, especially with the shuffling that is starting to take place.

Tx State has a lot to offer. Nice facilities, nice city, nice budget. With the portal the way it is and the ability to recoup all your losses on the roster, this could be a huge turnaround and could be done quicker than folks think.

People can point to the failure of Everett Withers but the problem with that hire was Texas State overestimated how easy it is to win at JMU in the modern CAA.

Sorta like JMU winning in the SBC, right?

No, TXST did not overestimate anything about the degree of difficulty of the CAA, they got suckered in by Withers who is a self-promoting jerk, and a very bad HC.

I think the big key there is the difficulty of winning at JMU in the CAA. I'm pretty sure half of us on this board could coach JMU to making the playoffs in the CAA lol

To have Houston or Cignetti level success at JMU means something. To have Withers level success, ehhh you're racing a Ferrari against a bunch of Civics all year then lose as soon as you have to take on a Mustang.
