Coworker is a WVU fan and says a lot of the players are entering the portal and their coach is going to be fired after the season. Coaching carousel is also going to be fun to watch

Ok I probably shouldn't enjoy WVU's issues as much as I do, but their players are leaving like rats on a sinking ship...there's a story in the paper in these parts that the coach has talked to one of the guys like 2 times in two weeks :)

The transfer portal is starting to feel like G5s are the Hyaenas of the college football world scrambling to feast on the remains P5 leftovers.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement. Hyaenas can be damn tough in their own right.

Welcome to professional football. I think degrees earned will fall and IRS audits will rise.

I would love for a high-profile transfer portal exodus to happen to a "P5" big boy. Maybe some things would change.

I mean it's fine if they grab a recruit from a G5 or snatch one out of the portal (sometimes I wonder if there's tampering).. But don't let it be equal footing oh no that's not right.

Oh, there’s certainly tampering. Hurston Waldrep didn’t just happen to find his way to Florida.

He actively shopped his self around. He went where the money was best. Welcome to the new world of amateur college athletics.

I like the new rules allowing a team to sign as many as they need to reach 85 scholarship players. Get hammered by the portal, just find what you need to fill the holes.

For ULM: Give me 2 DL, an edge rusher, 4 OL, a bigger RB and a couple DBs. Oh, if Santa if feeling nice, I would like a Special Teams coordinator because ours sucks.

Well, it's a one time transfer rule. That should mean he has to sit out a year.

I have said, depending on what Rattler decides to do at South Carolina (as far as leaving or staying), I wouldn’t mind seeing Coastal go after backup Luke Doty. He was a former 4 or 5 star out of Myrtle Beach and has the same skill-set as McCall.

I meant in regards to the scholarship. Does the original school still have to honor the scholarship if the player accepts a scholarship at another school.

Edit: I guess it probably doesn’t matter much. Not sure how many players will have time to take classes at two schools unless they get injured. Probably a very small percentage.

I am not sure but it used to be that scholarships were for one year. I would assume that is still the rule. I do know some players have switched schools more than once but that may have involved grad transfers.

No.

Once a player declares for the transfer portal the player’s original school no longer has to keep the player on scholarship. If the player declares for the portal, but subsequently decides to stay at his original school, the school has the option of denying his scholarship.

Has JMU given up on trying to recruit and develop QBs?

Take a look around fbs. Probably 2/3rds of qbs starting are portal transfers.

Would be nice to have a 4 year qb, but that’s just not reality anymore.

If you ain’t playing the portal game, you will suffer.

Apparently you’re new to American D1 FBS football. QB transfers aren’t unusual, and it might be argued, are actually necessary if your team is to be competitive.

I know they aren’t unusual but seems odd that you give up trying to develop your own. I get that it is necessary at times but not sure it should be a primary strategy. You will not build any type of depth or loyalty if you are constantly bringing in players that didn’t work out at one or two other programs. Plus, there may be reasons why they didn’t work out. I think it works sometimes like with Centeio but think it could backfire too.
