I don't care what anyone says, a player should NEVER shove a fan down like that. The video doesn't show much of what happened before the shove, but there is still no excuse for it, ever. I'd say the exact same thing if it was one of our players shoving another team's fan.

I agree people shouldn't push others, but don't put yourself in that position either. Getting that close to people twice your size after they just played their last college game is some Darwinism behavior.

The terms "assault" and "attacking" are hyperbole if you watch the video.

It doesn't matter where the fan was, it's still wrong! I bolded your own words as to why it can be considered assault or attacking. Although technically speaking it would be battery, not assault.

It was wrong when the Bama player did it. It was wrong when the Tenn player did it. And it's wrong here too. It is indefensible, period.

Don't go on the field, unless you are supposed to be there and/or are willing to accept the potential consequences, seems like a simple concept of personal responsibility.

Similar concepts, don't touch a hot stove you might get burned. Don't fight the police, you might get shot. Don't play in traffic, you might get hit, etc.

I get that, I do. The App player really shouldn't have done that. I'm sure it was in the heat of moment, after having lost to their most hated rival. A poor decision on his part. It takes very, very few people before mob mentality starts to become a real thing. It could've ended up very badly for that young man as well. All I'm saying is, if that guy never went to the field, chances are it never would've happened. Sure you can celebrate and be happy that we won, but there's no real reason to be on the field.

Guess ESPN should stop using App rushing the field on an astronomically lucky play to win against what I'm sure was a very disappointed Troy team in their promos.

We don't want to encourage poor fan behavior after all.

it's been happening multiple times a year for decades and is part of why people love college sports. There are risks involved with being in a crowd of that size, but one of them should not be the risk of being physically assaulted by a player.
