Have you ever made a positive contribution to this board?

Don't mind him, he is the same poster from our board by the name "Tripod" (he will correct me on this by saying he is not "the pod" when only Tripod refers to Tripod as "the pod")

Anyway we over at KatFans highly recommend using the block function on him! We as KatFans apologize for SammyH or Tripod, or whoever this guy is.

RE: JSU FB coming in STRONG
You clearly don't remember the last time Sam Houston and J'Ville met on the gridiron.....pretty sure y'all are the ones still recovering. Anywho moving on.

I'm really curious to see how J'Ville and Sam Houston compare next season, 2 completely different approaches to the transition I'm curious to who did it better. On the one hand Sam Houston took an interesting and creative approach by redshirting all our best players and those wanting an extra year in CUSA giving all our freshman and backups lots of experience. Yes our on field results were mediocre at best and an embarrassment at other times. But I feel that with a full strength roster next season Sam Houston will be very deep and very competitive (given we find an OC and QB..maybe fill a hole or 2 on OL but not as concerned)

Meanwhile J'Ville (as far as I know which isn't much) didn't skip a beat, rolling past opponents with the extra scholarships available and played like it was any other season (as teams have done in the past).

All in all our team was pretty much the same as last year's with the exception of several of our starter leaving through the portal. I took most of the year to recouperate from the losses.

Under the last head coach we couldn't stop a TO at all. I hope that is gone with him. Actually under a new coach it appears to be.

I am happy KSU is coming along. They have always been tough in every sport. And will be a great addition. I'm not to sure about the success with the TO in FBS though.

Biggest difference I saw this year was that whenever we stopped a team on 3rd down there wasn’t a flag laying on the ground for lazy penalties.

Last year it felt like every time we stopped a team we got an unsportsmanlike or something stupid

It’s no wonder JSU fans are so irrationally excited to join CUSA. If I knew my team had peaked in the FCS and would never amount to anything again, I’d be okay with going too.

I'm not defending Sammy H, but you guys have experienced a total shellacking by Sam Houston too as recently as last season. Sam Houston football has some serious rebuilding to do this off season, but it will get done because of games like that 2015 melt down vs JSU and 2016 JMU, Keeler rebuilt the team into a national title winner 4 seasons later when he got the recruits and players that he needed to pull it off. He has won and been to multiple national titles in the FCS, so he knows how to find talent and good coaches.

Now, is that true? Because you never had trouble beating teams from the SoCon. Seems like it was the OWLS that have your number, not the TO.

I expect Sam to be fine. Hope we are, too. Both schools have a history of winning and wanting to win which normally means the administration will do or try most anything to get their programs to win.

Not sure but we only used 70 schollies this year.
Have 11 seniors.

Many of the "extra scholarships" Jax State had this year went toward replacing a huge amount of Portal losses due to the coaching change, while others were used to raise some of the players on partial scholarships up to full scholarships.

FCS teams can divide their 65 scholarships among up to 85 players, so some players may only have 1/2 tuition scholarships. At the FBS level, all 85 scholarships have to be full tuition. As Gem said, we only used 70 total this year, so we're definitely reserving some for our first season as an FBS member.

As for our 9-2 finish...

Thanks to COVID and a medical redshirt year, we lucked into having a 6th year senior at QB this year whose physical skills were nearly perfect for the Hot Rod offense. That eased the transition to a new offensive staff.

Our strength & conditioning program was much improved -- this was huge -- and our OL and defensive coaching was far better than in recent years.

On special teams, we had a reliable punter to flip the field and a great placekicker to limit kickoff returns.

Those two losses, one to FBS Tulsa and one to FCS SELA (currently ranked #17 in FCS), prove that Jax State isn't quite "there" yet. We've got a lot of holes to fill and weaknesses to overcome. But we should come in competitive. I believe SHSU will do the same.

And as much as I hate those fowl bastiges, KSU won't be down for long, either. They were kneecapped by the NCAA's new rules on blocking, so they have to overcome that. But once they do, they'll come in looking to win as well.

We should be in really good shape as a conference, once everyone's completed their transitions.

We beat the best team out of the SOCON in the playoffs 2/3 times. Is it the TO?

More data on theme related BACK to the original post.

JSU finishes Fifth in the nation in FCS attendance (18,161) out of 130 teams. Impressive.

Should get even bigger crowds in FBS.

RE: JSU FB coming in STRONG
Wished the schedule was out to give you a better guess at attendance. JSU has historically had decent attendance for our type of school. Catch a lot of flak at times but the band generates quite a few attendees, so if their show is good more will come.

FBS, surly the move will generate some new found interest in the locals and the local media (which is all but shutdown). Birmingham News will be gone so newspaper coverage in the states largest market will be non existent. Local TV24 is a shadow of its former self. Anyways maybe the facebook crowd can spread the word.

Not knowing who will be our home games, I would expect us to be around 20,000 which would mean close to a sellout every game. We all known this doesnt mean the stands will be full. With construction going on the stadium will have reduced capacity and Im not sure of the number.

Of the games listed on FBS Schedule
Kennesaw St should produce a good crowd
Central Michigan a regular crowd as Im not sure many JSU fans will associate them with FBS.
The other game is USC at it is away.
Conference games will be interesting as to come to an understanding of which mates have any name value in our market. Everyone on the board has as good of an idea as I would. My guess to the best ones in our market would be WKU, UTEP, Sam and Liberty. A few years ago Middle would have made the list but very little mention of them in our area as Sam Hunt might be the last player anyone can remember going to Middle.

Excited to see what the new world brings to the table.

Don't forget our (many) fans from extreme north Alabama, northwest Georgia, and the Chattanooga area.

Many JSU students from these areas have high school friends who chose MTSU.

Alumni living in these areas have friends and coworkers who are MTSU alums.

180 miles is not a long way. Not everyone in the Jax State footprint will be intimately familiar with MTSU, but an awful lot of them will be. It'll pull a crowd. (And if the bands travel, as both did in the 90s, it'll be even bigger.)
