RE: For as Much as I’ve Bitched This Year…
Dear Friends,
I have to disagree with the comments of Creighton being the best coach in Eastern's history. In my opinion, it is the coach for whom the stadium is named. Elton Rynearson. He's the winningest by record, was loved by his players, had at least one player named to the major All-American teams, and came closest to beating U-M losing 7-0. Talk of working with less, it is he.
The problem, is history. As time goes by, people forget it, or never knew about it, and are people of today, not yesterday.

Well said.

Rynearson and Boisture were clearly better, and I’ll always believe that others (Harkema, Rasnick, Genyk) could have been just as successful (if not more so) if given the same level of resources/support.

In the modern era, Harkema was our best coach. MAC Champion and Bowl winner!

I’ll take Chris Creighton! Wish he would hire an offensive coordinator who understands the running game. I have mixed feelings about Neathery. I don’t like our LBs and DL play before this years transfer players. I do believe our front seven will be improved.

The “miracle worker” stuff gets so old. Chris Creighton has shown that you can win football games here, but I can’t stand the narrative from the outsiders that Chris Creighton is the “only” guy that can win football games here.

Anyway, please beat CMU. I was a student the last time we won the Michigan MAC trophy, and I’m starting to see some Factory Gray hairs in my beard now, to put that into perspective. 8-4 and the trophy is a heck of a year. Let’s finish strong!

Agreed sir. He’s not a savant or a schematic genius, but he’s shown that it’s possible to go .500 at little ole EMU.

Hey some of you can use whatever metrics you wish to belittle what CC has accomplished here, but again he will probably be known as the best EMU football coach in the school's history. Every EMU football coach that comes after him will only build on CC's foundation and his culture. (hopefully) along with the SAPC.

However you want to rationalize it, go ahead. You quoted a tweet that called him a “miracle worker”, and that’s all I was responding to. I can say that he’s done a great job building a foundation, while expecting better results, and identifying that he obviously is far from a miracle worker.

Agree Lucky. Harkema after his first nine years, had three MAC season W-L records that Creighton has not equaled yet in his first nine seasons. Harkema also took over the program in a similar downtrodden state.

That said, after year nine, we are now in a far better position today than when Harkema walked out. Chris has built the program much better from a long-term basis. I certainly want to keep him around.

Still, I understand Sam and Cow's concerns. He does NOT need to be contracted for FIVE more years. I also am frustrated that our deficiencies seem to be chronic and little if anything is done year over year to correct them.

The leather helmet days don't count. The Dan Boisture, way too similar to moisture, days
don't count. Those were the freaking dark ages. The game they were playing could very loosely be called football but it was something very different from modern football. Chris Creighton is #1 for bringing this corpse of a program back to life and taking it to the next level. Jim Harkema is #2 or possibly tied with CC.

Dear Bob,
I watched the games of the Boisture era, and they were just as good as the football played today. So, in my opinion, you are way off the mark. I don't care if you think the players are better today, or the schemes are better today, or whatever, you just don't know the history of what has gone by. Creighton still has to win eight games in a season, and is in his ninth year. If, recent history is correct, Eastern should lose this Friday, because we have not won at home all year long. I hope I'm wrong, and Eastern wins.
