I heard this comment too and thought it was really weird. I think the program is in worse shape than many people want to admit. One good season and three dumpster years under Hammock. Let’s not pretend it has been anything other than that.

Getting dusted by a one win Akron team at home should finally hammer that point home. Again, NIU plays in the MAC, not the SEC or even the Sun Belt. Those who keep coming up with excuses for why NIU is trolling near the bottom of the conference each season need to have their eyes checked.

So the TV announcer (ESPN3 guy?) makes a comment and let it hang out there, but nothing else? How does he know what's going to happen after this game?

Some other points ...

STF has to make a decision too. The bean-counter-in-chief has to decide whether he wants to spend some money and let Hammock get some assistants in there who are hungry to win, or keep the dual-DC and other guys Hammock played with or coached with.

STF scooped $100k+ off Huskies Invest items, is assuredly going to spend less for a new volleyball coach and should get $ if/when there is only one DC.

He also has to get off his A and get some marketing going, because if the attendance trend continues we'll either watch it all on TV or watch something else. If he's not careful, all NIU will have left is a few diehard old-timers (and the rest of us who aged into our recliners) and player family members.

Another ... that "one good season" was partly built on luck. A lot of breaks went NIU's way. Don't let that cloud judgement about 2021.

Hammocks ego again is my guess. I think I heard one coach say it best. You need to re-recruit your team every year now with the portal.

Going at them asking if they want to be here is the wrong way to go about it after another bad season. Thats for sure.

If no changes are made on the staff, that will be issue number one.

When did that TV announcer say that? If halftime, maybe he overheard something being discussed among NIU bigshots (do we have any?)

The announcers just stated that NIU layed an egg today while noting that the players do not appear to even be trying. If NIU had even a semi-competent athletic department he would be gone after this season. Almost every other school would make that change. NIU will hide behind the injuries to defend why a change is not needed.
